CPF: Professional Photos

I've been thinking.... I feel a little neglectful because I don't do professional photos with my kids. We did a Sears portrait with Marnie when she was one, but that's it.

So, is anyone else in the same boat, or am I a negligent parent that is the only one that doesn't do professional photoshoots?

but it's not everyone's cup of tea and you aren't negligent!

The NICU brought in a professional photographer for free on Fathers' Day last year. We ended up getting one shot from it. And then the director of the parents support group got her to come back to do a special session with us when Luke was still there at 3 months old.

Other than that we have not. I imagine we might have done a newborn shoot? But I hadn't gotten the ball rolling for that yet at 34 weeks so who knows if it would've happened. We splurged on a fancy DSLR in 2012 so we can take a lot of great amateur photos ourselves, which are not quite as good but are free

We are doing a one-year photo shoot with our wedding photographer next weekend though - so excited!!!!

I have a friend who is a professional photographer who offers various mini sessions through out the year. They run $40 for 20 minutes and all rights to the pictures. That's a steal for 50+ pictures that I can take my time to scroll through.

We did a 3 and 6 month shoot, along with a Christmas shoot. I'm procrastinating with the 9 month shoot.

I had newborn taken by a photographer, then a few weeks ago I took her to DDs school and had "school" pictures taken basically. And then I plan to for her 1 year. For Nikita her first pro shoot was Sears at 6mos. Then she started daycare and they had pix taken there twice a year. We didnt take her to a studio again until she was 3.

Agh! I lied! I forgot we had some done at Christmas time but they came out awful! We will have some done by a photographer friend at one year.

We haven't done any. I think I get some pretty good ones w/my phone, and d.h. has a Canon digital s.l.r. and taught photography night courses. Just the other morning he was watching d.d. while I got her bottle ready and I came back in to find he had one of the arms of our "octopus lamp" (dunno how else to describe it...it's one tall lamp w/many arms, each w/a light at the end) pointed at d.d. and was taking pics of her. At least two of the maybe four I got to see looked professional (he wouldn't let me see the rest cuz he realized it could be part of my Mothers' Day present).

BUT here's why. One of my close friends is a photographer and we get a great rate. We couldn't do it as frequently if we paid the full amount.

It's not for everyone. I know many people who don't get professional pictures taken at all.

The Lizbeth gets professional pics taken every 15 minutes. The cuteness explodes on my newsfeed daily

We had newborn, 3 month and 6 month done. We aren't doing 9 month, but are doing 1 year. I don't know how often we'll do them after that.

The hospital had a photographer for new born pics. Haven't done any since. We take a ton of nice pics with our phones

We do photos at 2 weeks, 3 months, 6 months, 9 months, 12 months, 18 months, and then around each birthday. Most of the time I just go to JC Penney and only buy the CD. It's about $150 (or less when they have a deal) and then I get prints from shutterfly. We don't have fancy cameras or skill or interest in photography, so I'm not happy with just taking my own photos.

We did pro photos in the hospital, and will do them yearly until school pictures start... Even then I might continue. We just scheduled his 1 year pics for June 28!

You kinda stole my FFFC...I haven't done any professional photos for my kiddos. They have had some nice retouched ones done by my brother and sister, but that's it.

I've had them done newborn, 3 mos., 6 mos. and just did our 9 mos. today. My sister is a photographer though and does them at no cost. I've offered her money every time but she will not accept it. I'm not sure I would have them done as frequently if I didn't have her though.

I'm finding it very interesting that the numbers are pretty specifically split at 2/3 yes to 1/3 no. It has stayed consistently at that ratio the whole time.

I'm embarrassed to say how many times we've taken Luke to picture people to take advantage of groupons and our membership. There's no way my subsequent children will have as many professional pics as him.

I'm sad about this, too. James had to be in the bilibed and I had to feed him every two hours (which was more like every hour with how slowly he ate). We just couldn't figure out a good time to do it. At the time I was stressed so I didn't care, but now I'm wishing we would have. Just so I would have more photos of how tiny.

This exactly, except swap Christmas for Easter. Because who doesn't want to have a photo shoot with live bunnies?!?

After age one I only do professional pics annually for their birthday until they turn 5/start pre-K and get school photos.

I am a slacker, too. I know I'm not alone from the poll results, but everyone in the comments is commenting on how many photos they've taken, so I felt like I needed to stand publicly in solidarity with you @thegoodpotato.

Maybe it's a second-time mom thing? I really do want to get some photos taken. We got some with DS1, and they were amazing, but they were also really really pricey. I want to find another photographer who is as good but half the cost.
