What quantity of solids is LO consuming?

How much is you LO eating?  It seems like DD is eating big portions.  She is tiny (not even 16 lbs yet) so she must not be getting too much.  She just had 1/4 of an avocado and about 1/3 c. of Spaghetti, 3 penne noodles cut up and the ground beef and tomato sauce.  I'm sure if I offered her some fruit she would eat it too.

Does that seem like a lot of food?  What does you LO's diet look like?

  • Yesterday menu for DS
    Breakfast- two pancakes with applesauce
Lunch- half a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, 1/4 cup blueberries, and a hand full of puffs
Dinner- 1/2 cup of shrimp scampi with angel hair pasta and a fruit cup.

DS is a little guy (17.5 lbs) and a big eater too, sometime he eats more then his three year old sister.

  • Parker is my 22.5 lb hoss.  He eats EVERYTHING and he's even starting to eliminate his own bottles, he'd rather have food.  Usually I come home he gets a bottle Josephine gets a snack.  He will not eat the bottle, he'll cry and scream until he gets a snack too... it's cute.

  • This content has been removed.
  • K eats barely anything. She puts food in her mouth and then spits it out as quick as she can. The only thing she will actually eat is breakfast susage. My kid is weird.

Not weird! Eggs & breakfast sausage (ribs too?) are the only meat Abby has ever consumed. Lol

She eats all the veggies/fruits though.

  • Mine does not eat that much. He's a little guy in 30th percentile. I'm lucky if I can get him to take 24oz of formula and 2 meals. Meals are often smaller than what you described. I try to give some baby food and some people food at each meal. He also suddenly dislikes feeding himself and me using a spoon....so my fingers have the best shot at feeding him. Fun times. He was eating more solids than he is now, so I'm not sure what the deal is.
Trying for #2 since November 2015

    DS #1 - 7/25/13

  • It really depends what it is. He can eat almost an entire avocado, but with some purees we are still giving him, it's only a few bites before he's just done and wants him puffs instead. That might be our failing though, we probably need to start him on things he can grab, which he's much more interested in.

    Yesterday, this was L's menu:

B - piece of french toast and yogurt
L - 4 small spinach pancakes and half a banana
D - shredded chicken (maybe half a breast?) and roasted peppers

She also had a snack of a few cheerios and a pouch.

    ETA: She nursed 5x.

  • My DD is also a great eater. She eats more then her picky 3 year old brother. She hates purees so I stopped them and she eats what I eat. Last night at dinner she had broccoli, some pasta, and some grilled chicken. Then some of the crunchies. Breakfast was 1/2 yogurt and cherioes, and lunch was some turkey and cheese. She eats everything I give her and has never turned down food so she eats eggs, steak, meatballs, grilled chicken, and lots of vegatables. She even ate crackers and humus yesterday. I love how she eats!

  • Luke is drinking 25oz of milk + 5oz Pedialyte (although I think we're going to try switching out the Pedialyte for coconut milk this weekend and see if he'll take it - wish us luck!), and usually 1 yogurt, 2 pouches, a cheese stick, unlimited Cheerios, and occasionally some of what we're eating. One day we let him eat all the things, as much as he wanted, and he ate a TON but then didn't finish his last bottle and puked MOTN :(

He's been really picky lately though. He's started turning up his nose at purees that he used to love. Sometimes he'll eat chicken, sometimes he won't. Sometimes he will only eat off of a grown-up spoon instead of his baby spoons. Sometimes he'll only eat straight from the pouch. Sometimes he'll only eat things that are scooped up on a cracker or chip instead of a spoon. Avocado chunks = most disgusting thing ever, five minutes later avocado chunks in a bowl scooped up on a tortilla chip-spoon = most delicious thing ever must have MOAR!

Babies are weird. It's been a frustrating week of dinners. He's got to have his calories, but I'm trying not to get too hung up on it.

We are impatiently awaiting the day we can say goodbye to his girlfriend Ivy for good.

Very, very little. If it's purées or anything I feed him with a spoon he'll eat about 2-3 tbs. He has never finished even half a pouch before I've had to throw it out. He'll eat 3-5 yogurt melts. Maybe one puff.

He does a bit better with BLW. He'll suck all the juice from a pickle and gnaw on that for 20 minutes. He likes snap pea crisps, sliced bananas and strawberries the most right now. And he tastes everything we give him but most of it ends up on the floor/in a dog.

He very rarely will want food more than once a day.

I do not measure... I give him a pile of shredded meat, a pile of veggies etc. if he finishes it alright. If he doesn't, alright. If your LO seems happy then I say offer food. I can't imagine a baby over eating?
I'm not worried about her overeating.  She stops eating if she has had too much.  I was mostly just curious if others had healthy eater.  I know you really can't/shouldn't compare but it had me wondering. :)

We eat well and healthy so I'm not really concerned.  I give her as much veggies, fruit, meat, beans, etc as she will eat.  I don't measure either.  I was just guessing earlier.

We have never done purees (she refused them).  She has eaten what we have since we started solids.  She loves capers and sauerkraut.  She's a great eater.
Eta to add.  She has been a crappy nurser for a while.  I figure as long as she is having wet diapers and eating a varity of foods then she is probably ok.

    Ellie eats 25oz of formula.

She also has three meals and 1-2 snacks a day.

    She eats everything!

This. And we have him on all table food now, no more purées
  • I'd estimate about 18oz baby food (including purees, pouches, and yogurt) plus snacks during the day (usually consisting of cheerios, cheese, or chicken). She'd probably eat more if I put it in front of her.

She just turned a corner at 9 months.. from 6-9 she was really disinterested in food..  now she does 3 meals a day, and a snack. first 2 are usually a pouch or jar of food at daycare, at night I give her a puree and whatever we are eating ( chicken/veggies/meatballs etc) and she noms it up!

    He eats a lot.

B - one scrambled egg, fruit, 4 oz of yogurt
L- 1/2 avocado, fruit, cut up chicken, cheese
D - usually same as lunch but I might give him some ravioli, broccoli, peas, etc. to mix it up.

I think he drinks about 25 oz of formula/breastmilk at this point.

Eta: forgot I was still breastfeeding...
  • Three meals a day plus snacks, all table food now except for the odd pouch if we are out snd about. She loves her food and must have what we have or she complains!!

  • I swear I need you guys to come to my house and show me how its done!! I am in need of baby food eating lessons. Ava barely eats food and even though I wanted to go to formula a few months ago, she will only take it when I am at work and once I walk in the door...its boob boob boob.

Oliver gives most of his food to the dogs...so not too much, really. :| He generally loves fruit, though and will still drink most his formula (24-30 oz/day). ETA: he does eat and loves food...he's just been a weirdo lately. If I can get a few bites in him at each meal, I'm happy.
  • LO eats a lot! 3 meals a day plus snacks. She's starting to wean herself off of bottles. She hates them, I try to get at least 18 oz in had a day, per doctors request, but she would just rather have table food. Hates purées.
  • I love reading about what all the babies eat!
  • Not a lot. I was actually concerned about it but the ped at his 9 month appt said a heaping tablespoon was more than enough per meal. I don't measure and he gets a mix of solids and purees offered to him. Some days he's a piggy, other days he turns his nose up to things that he used to gobble up.
  • C eats a ton! He won't let us miss a meal, plus he still nurses 6-9 times a day. He's only 16 pounds and I have no clue where he puts it.

  • DD eats about 30oz of formula a day and we try to feed her as much pureed food as she'll eat 3 times a day. We try to mix some fruits and veggies. She'll usually do at least 2 tablespoons per meal, which the pedi said was good. I've mashed up avocado and banana for her to feed herself, but she's more interested in playing with it. We haven't done puffs or anything "solid" yet. She doesn't really chew things yet. I hope she starts soon- it makes me nervous that she'll never eat real food!

For the purees, it really helped DD to be able to suck it right out of the packet. She will eat a whole packet that way but only a few spoonfuls with a spoon. I guess it's closer to eating from a bottle so she's more comfortable with it.

DS is a garbage disposal. There is nothing he won't eat so far.  He eats 3 meals a day, although if he has a late morning bottle, we sometimes skip breakfast for time reasons.  He eats what we eat.  He takes about 25 oz of formula.
