Hi ladies, 

My name is Kerri & my husband & I are TTC #2!  I was diagnosed with PCOS while TTC #1 about 8 years ago (our son is 4).  We were successful with Clomid during round 3 (after taking a break break the year before after 4 cycles).  We just finished our 1st round of Letrozole (5 mgs), but were not successful.  I'm torn between trying Letrozole again & going back to Clomid (it worked before, so why not?).  My doctor feels like we have a better shot with Letrozole, but I'm not terribly familiar with it & don't know anyone who has taken it before.  We didn't need any other interventions besides medication last time so I'm curious if anyone is just doing meds/or has just done meds to get pregnant.  I'm especially curious about thoughts on Letrozole (I also take 1500 mgs of Metformin a day).  Thanks for any help/advice you can give me!

    Sorry the Letrozole isn't working so far this time around! I'm sorry that I don't have any good advice, but welcome to 3T. :)

    Welcome to 3T! I started with clomid and would respond well for a cycle or two and then stop. They'd have to up my dosage to get me to respond again. After a failed attempt at clomid 150mg, my dr switched me to Femara (letrozole). My follicles never grew past 11mm over the course of two cycles. So now I'm back to clomid (200mg) and I'm responding like a champ. If clomid worked for you before I'd ask to go back to it! Has he given you a reason why he thinks Femara will work better for you?

    Thanks AnnaClaire!  Yes, he feels like we will have better luck getting pregnant sooner with the Letrozole.  He says that the risk of birth defects is slightly lower & originally told me that the side effects were less with Letrozole (I disagree..I had bad headaches, nausea, & very tired).  I told him about those today & he said he was fine with me going back to Clomid.  He just has had better results using Letrozole.  After thinking about it some this afternoon & talking with my husband, I may try the Letrozole at least one more cycle.  I wasn't really sure what to expect with the first cycle & now that my body has had the Letrozole once, maybe the side effects wouldn't be a severe this time??

    My side effects were pretty minimal on Femara...but 200mg clomid is pretty much a nightmare. Literally! Bad dreams, muscle aches, night sweats, blurred vision...the whole nine yards. It's worth it when you see the follies on the screen! Hopefully you'll have better luck this cycle. FXd for you!

    DX: 3/2014 Prolactinoma/Hyperprolactinemia- Started cabergoline 2/2014
    5/2014 Possible mild PCOS in addition to hyperprolactinemia??
    7/2014 Adding probable tubal factor to the diagnosis list
    9/2014 And now adding hypothyroid to the list- Started synthroid 9/2014
    Cycles 1-4 - Sept.-March- All Anovulatory 
    IUI #1 March/April-  Clomid 50mg + Clomid 100mg +Trigger + IUI #1 = BFN
     IUI #2 April/May-Clomid 100mg + Clomid 150mg + Trigger + IUI #2 + Endometrin=BFN
    IUI #3- June- Follistim 75iu + Trigger + IUI #3  Benched due to a 40 mm cyst. :-(
    IUI #3- July- Follistim 75iu + Trigger + IUI #3 + Endometrin = BFP! on 7/25/14
    Slowly rising betas - Ectopic suspected on 8/8/14 & confirmed on 8/11/14
    Methotrexate on 8/12/14 -HCG negative on 9/2/14
    IVF #1- November- Antagonist protocol: 11/1: start stims, 200iu of Follistim; 11/12 ER 17R/14M/14F; 11/17 5 day transfer of two blasts, 2 blasts and 2 expanding morulas frozen; 11/22 BFP!! (On FRER at 5dp5dt)
    Betas: 9dp5dt 205, 11dp5dt 497, 14dp5dt 1,709
    u/s at 5w0d- 1 sac; u/s at 6w0d 1 baby with heartbeat, another sac without a heartbeat
