My doc is sending me to be induced on Monday because baby girl is getting big (measuring 8.5 lbs) and I have gestational diabetes .. Problem is I'm not dilated at all and she's still high up and hasn't dropped enough .. Anyone else been induced? If so how long did it take for your LO to get here ??
Re: Being induced at 39 weeks due to gestational diabetes ... Anyone induced?
I think it has a lot to do with how ready your body is and your build more then baby size.
DD1 I wasn't dilated or effaced, but she was low. I had Cervidil, fully dilated in 7 hours and then it took 3 hours to push her out after I got the epi. She was 8 lb 13 oz and I had no issues delivering her and no tearing, etc.
DD2 I was 1-2 cm and 50%. Aftet the 12 hours of Cervidil I had progressed to about 3 and then had to have pitocin. That stuff is the devil so I ended up with the epi and delivered her after 17 hours total. She was 7 lbs 14 oz and only tool about 20 minutes of pushing.
If your GD is well controlled and there are no other issues with your baby, placenta, etc. I would be hesitant to move forward with induction.

My induction with DD2 was much faster (7hrs), but I was 4cm and 70% effaced to start.
DD1 (41 weeks) started cervadil previous night, was not dilated prior to going in. Started pit the following morning at 5am, had DD at 7:33 PM that night.
DD2 (38 weeks) started cervadil previous night, gave me a generous 1cm. Started pit at 7am, had her at 10:30am same day.

I was 2 cm dilated when I went in. After one dose of cytotec, was having contractions but my cervix tried to close. They broke my water and started me on pitocin. Over all it was a pretty long and painful labor because I my cervix wasn't favorable. (I labored for 19 hours and pushed for about 40 minutes)
Good luck, I hope this helps!
