Dipping Into Freezer Stash

I'm dealing with severe sleep insomnia and it's taken a bit of toll on my pumping supply. I'm having really small deficits each day about 0.4 ounce. My freezer stash ranges between 1-4 ounces. Daycare won't pour bottles so I need to have them prepared ahead of time. When you only need a specific amount of milk less than what a freezer bag has, how do you go about preparing daycare bottles so that no milk gets wasted? Also, is it OK to warm frozen milk in the morning (under hot water) if it doesn't completely thaw overnight (even if the bottle will go back in the fridge until later that day) or can I even just thaw it in the morning just so that it can be poured into a bottle?

Re: Dipping Into Freezer Stash

  • My LC said you can warm milk as many times as needed it only needs to be discarded after baby drinks from the bottle. Why would you need to melt it though in the morning? I've seen people post here that they just pour the ice chunks in the bottle and send that. I guess I would just warm it enough to pour.

When I sent milk to DC I sent 4- 4 oz bottkes for 10 hours. She typically drank 12-13 oz. If DC won't pour bottles, you are probably going to end up wasting milk.

If you only need 1 oz or 1extra bottle I would mark that bottle to be used first since it would "expire" the soonest.
