I'm expecting in November. With my first, I planned to BF--but really didn't read up much (and was largely unsuccessful). In preparing for this baby I want to become more educated. I live in a small community without many resources. What books are must reads for BF? Thanks!!

Re: Summer reading list

  • i honestly found online resources/websites to be more helpful than any one book. if you are on facebook, you can like all of these websites' associated pages, and then you'll be seeing lots of great info everyday without having to expend any effort.

Kellymom- totally excellent reading on most every subject, plus lots of links to more info

Dr. Jack Newman- a breastfeeding expert, addresses a lot of common questions/misconceptions about breastfeeding on his Facebook page. he also has a lot of articles and videos on his website.

the La Leche League Intl website has a lot of helpful articles

the Milk Meg- blog by a lactation consultant/mom that addresses many common questions/problems, plus offers lots of encouragement

and don't forget you can always ask questions or get encouragement on this board! :)

  • Thanks ladies.  I'm going to see if I can pick up a copy of "So that's what they're for"--seems like it would fit my personality.  I love the idea of FB, it is probably more practical for my busy week days.  I have already been finding so much information on this board, too.

As PPs have mentioned, Kellymom.com is an awesome resource, as is this board.  Even though The Womanly Art of BF may not be everyone's style, it was a helpful read.  I wish I got the paper version instead of the digital because it would have been easier to flip back and forth to the sections I needed.  I also found an LC to work with through LLL.  She has been super helpful.
  • I really liked The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding.  I read it all the way through before LO got here, and I reread pertinent sections as LO is getting older.

Between that and Kellymom, I felt like I got a pretty good introduction to the subject.
