Long story short, yesterday when I opened my son's folder there was a letter in it from a mother of one of the students. The letter was asking for donations for the teachers gift. It said:
"....I am collecting money for an end of the year gift for each of the two teachers. There is no min amt set so give what you can and if you can't that's ok as well. Please contact me with any questions you may have. Suggestion you may have on the type of gift we should purchase would also be appreciated. Have a great day!"
1) I'm a little put off that it was put in the kids folder. I don't think negatively of the teachers, but I feel like it was just a tacky move from this mom. So like the teachers are collecting money for their own gift and are handing it over to her?
2) There's no idea of what to get or price. Is that normal? I just feel like there should be a way better way to go about this. There is a school directory and think maybe she should've emailed us directly vs sending a letter home. I don't know, at least put the letter in an envelop so the teachers didn't know what it said.
Am I just being silly thinking that gifts should be more of a surprise for the teacher?
Talk to me parenting. What would you do? Would you donate, if so how much? Do I make a suggestion? I'm thinking that I'll just get each teacher a gift card to a restaurant and give it to them separately/not participate in this class gift. Am I a dick?
Re: teacher gift ?
I'd just do my own thing for the teacher.
