Oh Gwyneth

Careful with all that backpedaling because you might fall and bust your face.  She now says her comments about 9-5 jobs were taken out of context because she meant HER 9-5 job (i.e. being a mother).  Except, that's not at all what she said, context or not.  She said 9-5 office jobs are...not like being on set with a strong implication that the set job is harder. She really just needs to shut her mouth.

Please don't hate me for it, but I am one of the few who really do like her. She has had her share of pitfalls in the public eye and is not a perfect human being by any measure; however, can we just cut her some slack? I thought she is trying to do a good thing and, truthfully, the topic is very relevant (mother's day and all). While she may be a little out of touch with reality, she is doing the best she can with the knowledge / experience she has as a mother. I enjoy goop. And no, I can't afford any of the stuff on it :)

  • Wait, so what is her 9 to 5 job?

Being a super famous movie star. Doi!

Side note:  I have never thought she was pretty. With all this dumb comments I think she looks even worse now. :|

Her 9-5 job is, according to her, being a mother. Which seriously EL OH EL.  That's a 24 hour a day job, dumbass.  So she manages to shit on working mothers AND SAHMs all at the same time.  She's wicked talented :-p
For her's not probably not even 9-5. I am sure she has nannys and stuff.

First of all I will start by saying I strongly dislike her. Having said that, I've spent many many long days on sets myself. I've also had many regular 9-5 jobs, and in fact left my long running entertainment job DUE to the long hours. I don't agree with everything she said. But I will say that you cannot have a normal life and it IS way easier to parent having a 9-5 job. Regardless of making tons of money or having child care on set. Unless you've worked 16 hour days, full of night calls, in short dresses in the freezing cold don't be so quick to judge. Entertainment is not as glamorous as it appears.

I'm actually not talking about a regular job. But that's besides the point. I get your point with only filming one movie a year. Even though that may be true, acting isn't just shooting movies. It's going back in to rerecord audio, reshoot scenes, do press, take meetings for future films, etc. Yes she may get more off time than the rest of us but it's hard work. I just hate when people act like it's not a real job or difficult. It's fun sometimes, but it's in no way easy. So I'll give her that. Normal people (most -if you have a normal 9-5 no traveling) get to go home at the end of the day and see their families. With film it doesn't really work that way.
  • We'll have to agree to soooort of disagree lol  She doesn't have to go home to cook and clean if she doesn't want to and her kids can come with her, like I said.  When I get home from work (five days a week, 49 weeks a year) I still have to maintain a house and balance my checkbook to make sure I accounted for the gifts for all the parties the boys got invited to and I get to do laundry while my husband mows the lawn for hours and still find time to spend with the kids.  I wouldn't trade it and I'm sure she has days that suck ass but her life affords her luxuries that make the sucky days much more bearable than they are for regular people.

And really, my issue isn't at all about the details of her life vs mine but that she presumed to say my life is somehow EASIER than hers.  It's false and I'll go to the mat on that.  It is NOT.

I think you are on the wrong end of this argument. No one is saying that what she does is easy before she is saying what she does is harder than what everyone else does. She started the comparison and opened herself to criticism. Had she come out and said "being a mom is hard" and then people attacked her for how easy her life is, that would have been one thing, but to say "it's much harder for me" is just out of touch and SOOO douchey

You make a valid point. It's not harder, it's all hard regardless of your job. Although I get to see my little girl at the end of the day and she may not. (Also trying to delete text from this to not quote myself on mobile isn't working sorry).

    I gotcha!

She may not see her girl every day, but I can guarantee that she has the opportunity to see her daughter more often than I do. But that's not the point, comparison is at the root of mommy wars, comparison is why Pinterest and Facebook suck and why we have an upcoming generation of selfish self-centered kids. Life is hard for everyone, and if you want to bitch and moan about it, leave me out of it. Your life is hard, in isolation, how it stacks up to my life shouldn't matter or make your life harder or easier.

I can't think of the exact quote but it's something to the effect of "people aren't being successful at you" so don't take it personal when they are successful or failing, it has nothing to do with your success or failure. (I'm going to kill myself to find the exact quote)...

I haven't heard that but I love it! It's hard for everyone. Even when it's easy it's still hard. And wonderful.

  • She might not see her daughter everyday but she doesn't even need to work!!!! She chooses to work and be in the spotlight. She hasn't been in a good movie in years too.
