Am I just emotional or would you be concerned?

So I work at a bank and earlier this week there was a guy in a police chase who was running all around near our branch shooting at police, threatening to shoot people he saw and he car jacked a lady. My h sent me a text telling me so I wanted to let the rest of the staff know to keep their eyes out and be careful. My supervisor didn't want to tell anyone. Then yesterday I find out that my boss gave a key and alarm code to a carpet cleaning guy over a month ago and he was supposed to return the key and never did. Now we find out that the janitor has seen him twice coming into the branch at night over the past couple of weeks. We have since replaced the carpet he cleaned. I am concerned he could be inside when we open and rob us. My supervisor and boss are not concerned at all. Would you be concerned or am I just being extra protective because I'm pregnant?

No! I would be worried too! Are you ever the person that goes in first in the mornings? If you are after that I would be like NOOOOPE! Not doing it!! If you see something weird at all call the police. That's what they're there for :-) I work in a bank but we're in a small town so it's not often, if ever, that we have things like that.

Usually, like the janitors, anyone who's given a key is bonded and insured and they've been checked out, but then once the job is complete, they're access is removed. It surprises me that this hasn't been done. Isn't your alarm system monitored? Shouldn't your boss be able to call the company and find out exactly who entered and at what time? Then your boss could at least confirm when this guy came in and find out why. Maybe that'll change their mind about revoking his access.

I would call police and or bank security for your branch and tell them so they are aware

1. Why wait until after they get robbed
2. Your manger has had plenty of time to fix the situations
3. Pregnant or not it isn't safe and there are procedures in place for that reason

I think due to my current job, previous jobs and my husbands career, I'm just desentsitized.... Wouldn't scare me at all. Chances are, if he knows he can go in at any time, why would he go in there right before opening??

I also work for a bank and agree that this really is not ok, especially if you are in a branch, as opposed to corporate/office type environment. That is pretty much in violation of every bank safety regulation. Can you express your concern to your manager?

I work for a bank as well, although not in a branch anymore. I would be very concerned, as PP have mentioned, that is a violation of so many security regulations! I would definitely go to the highest up person you have access to, or call corporate security.

I agree, it is worth being alarmed. Time to go over their head since is seems like real regulations regardless if there is an actual threat have been broken. Stay safe!

Usually it takes 2 people to open a safe, so if he sneaks in and hides right before opening, as soon as there are 2 people getting cash out for the day, he can come out of hiding and rob the place a little easier and with access to more money.

I mean, this would have to be the worlds dumbest bank robber. Most at least try to disguise their identity.

This is exactly my concern. Typically robberies that happen before opening are more dangerous because they take employees hostage and may get violent. Robberies during normal business hours are a quick grab and go and usually less violent. I know they do not do background checks on vendors that we hire to do carpet cleaning or janitorial because we found out our janitor we had a few months ago had a prison record and he was fired when a lawyer in a suite upstairs found the janitor looking at his files.

If his job as a contractor is done he doesn't need to be there period unless he is banking.

If he has been seen outside normal hours there then something needs to be done

You have to also think that this guy could sell someone his key & code if he knew they still worked. People do stupid things every day!

You have to take this seriously! You don't want to look back & think I could have prevented something terrible from happening. I've been robbed at a bank I use to work at & that is not something you want to have in the back of your mind ever!

Stupid yes but I also work for a PD and a huge majority of criminals are beyond idiots !

What everyone else said, especially going above your manager since he doesn't seem to give a flying F about the bank's security.
