Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

has anyone's baby thrown up after having coconut milk?

I'm worried about my son. He is 14 months and has been exclusively breastfed until 12 months, and now has been having some food since his birthday. I tried some coconut milk today (but only a tiny bit maybe an ounce or two) and he seemed to like it.  About two and half hours later he threw up, and ended up throwing up seven times.  He does not have a fever, and has not put anything in his mouth... Just wondering if that small amount may be the cause?  Has anyone else had a similar experience? He is sleeping but I am worried he is dehydrated. Should I wake him and try and get him to nurse? Any suggestions?

  • Try giving him water or getting him to nurse.

I also know coconut milk it does act as a natural laxative so it might not be the best milk option.

My daughter vomits anytime she has something with coconut milk, even if it's just a little bit mixed in a sauce. I'm not sure if it's an allergy or if it just upsets her stomach (I have GERD and coconut has always caused major reflux issues for me).

Is it really???  I give my daughter 3oz a day, she has a strong milk protein allergy and can't have any milk.  I run a home daycare and the other kids get a cup of milk in the afternoon so I give my daughter some coconut milk so she has a cup of white stuff too.  I breastfeed her for nutrition.  I had never heard of it being a natural laxative.  Will have to look into that.  My daughter does poop a lot and they are loose, but I just assumed that is because she still gets a good amount of breastmilk.

I didn't either!  My friend's daughter was drinking coconut milk and was having the worst poops ever.  The Pedi told her to switch to something else because it is a natural laxative.  Her poops got much better after she switched.
