Sciatic Pain

I swear this has been talked about on here but I cannot find it! I have terrible sciatic pain already at 11 weeks and I worry its only going to get worse. Tonight my husband had to pick me up off the couch so I could go to the bathroom. We were both laughing so hard at the situation that it made it worse (we laugh a lot). Has anyone had sciatic pain  and gotten treatment for it? If so what treatment worked for you? Or perhaps certain positions, etc that make the pain less severe?

Thanks ladies for any input and help!!

Re: Sciatic Pain

  • With my son I had it pretty bad at about 26-28 weeks and my dr said it will get better when the baby shifts off of those nerves. I doubt it's baby right now but could possibly be your uterus is right on it but as it gets bigger, hopefully it will shift slightly off of your sciatic nerve.

  • I had sciatic nerve pain last summer before my wedding and was not pregnant. I went to a holistic healer after trying muscle relaxers, epidurals and physical therapy. She helped tremendously and it completely went away. She treated me with accupuncture, chiropractic, and pressure treatment. BUT now I'm having problems again!! I didn't know if it was the pregnancy or not so I'm glad you posted this!! Also, my tailbone is so sore. I'm not sure if that is related to the sciatic nerve or not.

my tailbone is killing me!! i dont have sciatic issues but i do have a pinched nerve in the lower back and when it acts up i am confined to laying on the wood floor taking hardcore muscle relaxers until it calms down. the past few days ive noticed everytime i stand up i get pain in my tailbone. i dont know if it's pregnancy related or what but it sucks. it feels kind of like its compressed so when i stand it stretches back out. dont know if that makes sense.

  • This is my first pregnancy and I am definitely getting this. This week the back of my left hip/butt feels like it's breaking or on fire when I walk. So not fun. Hoping it goes away soon!
  • I had sciatica before becoming pregnant but was lucky enough to have some successful nerve burnings before getting pregnant so it has made things easier than they would have been for sure.

Things that helped me and still do are getting regular adjustments at the chiropractor, a special cushion for my chair at work, sleeping in supportive positions with pillows, using ice and plenty of massages from my husband.

I am 11 weeks tomorrow and have been having sciatica pain for about 2 weeks too.  I had it pre pregnancy as well but its been getting more frequent. I asked my doctor and he recommended a woman in our area Chiro-Mom ,I am choosing not to go unless I have to, maybe closer to the end..  maybe look up prenatal chiropractors in your area, but ive been put ice packs on the pain and it seems to help :)

I had sciatica at the end of my last pregnancy and seeing a chiropractor was the only thing that helped. (That and icing the area)

  • I've been suffering with sciatica since about 5w. It got a lot worse at 8w, is never gotten better. I talked to my OB and she referred me to a PT. I've gone to PT twice now. Still to early to tell if it's working. My sciatica seems to be caused from my back even though I feel the pain starting in my left glute and down my leg. Nothing truly gets rid of the pain. I sleep on my right side. If I need to bend down I keep my back straight and squat. I avoid leaving over and try to brace myself with my arms. Also sitting for long periods of time are bad. Definitely talk to your OB about it ASAP. I wouldn't wait until your next appointment. There is no reason to be in this much pain!
