Anyone else suffering allergies?

I've never had such bad allergies in my life. This is ridiculous, I haven't been able to breath through my nose in at least 2 weeks. And the sneezing fits are crazy, which is just awesome with my weakened bladder control. Is there any medication that's safe during pregnancy? I've been using saline nasal spray, and that gives me roughly 5 seconds of relief.

I've been told I can take Benedryl. I just take one pill. But, I am about to see if my Dr can write me an RX because I can't take it during the day and my allergies are just getting worse.

My Drs list said I can take Claritin, I think 10mg but not positive. I was taking Benadryl at night.

Mine are bad and I'm getting bloody noses. I live in the city too so there's not that much spring growth around here. Hopefully I don't have a full on attack when I leave this weekend to head to the "country"!

When it comes to pills, my doctor and pharmacist both said plain Claritin- not D or Zyrtec. I've had to break down and take one this week as well... stupid allergies.

And like PP said about Rhinocort- my Dr wrote me an rx at the 1st appointment.

I get really bad allergies too. The sneezing, running nose and itchy eyes are just horrible whenever I got out. But I have withheld taking any med so far. Gonna see if I can just tough it out for the rest of May.

I've got the bad runny nose/sneezing, itchy and watery eyes, and now my asthma has been kicking bad lately. It was literally 60 degrees in NE FL last week and now it's high 80's and low 90's. Bipolar weather, pollen, and allergy season doesn't help. My Dr. cleared me to take my inhaler as needed - if I can't breathe then neither can baby.

My allergies are extremely bad all year round. I tried to stop my meds, and it was horrible. My doctor said I need to say on my meds so I can function. I take zyrtec and flonase. I also use the neilmed sinus rinse bottle (not netti pot) and it helps a ton with my allergy and sinus issues. Hope you can find something that works for you!

Thanks ladies. Got to talk to the nurse and see also said plain Claritin, Zyrtec, or benedryl. Going to the pharmacy after work.

I am totally popping Benadryl. I always have bad allergies though, and this year is soooo much worse because it was cold for long enough that all the trees are dropping pollen together. I usually need an inhaler to get through the spring. I'm holding out against it for now because I can still breath (yay for indoor air purifiers).

As others have said, Claritin and Zyrtec (not the D versions) are all fine. Benedryl is safe too, but that makes me drowsy. I have constant, non-seasonal allergies, so I take a zyrtec every day. I tried to not take them when pregnant with DS, but realized I wasn't able to function and that was helping neither him nor me.

I've been suffering since a week before my BFP. There's something called pregnancy rhinitis. Apparently, the increase in blood and hormones makes the mucous membranes in the sinuses swell which can exacerbate allergies or create brand new sinus problems.

Most of the time, I only have one nostril working and sometimes none. Fun times.

I've been taking Benadryl,, but I'm going to an ENT doctor next week to get a safe spray.

A neti pot can help rinse the sinuses out. Otherwise a hot pack to the face, throat, and chest helps break up some of the stuff, too.

I havr been taking Flonase (I have asmtha and one of my triggers are allergies, so it's worth the risk), but I start it well before the allergens outside start, and it just isnt doing anything for me, when it normally works pretty well. I switched to claritin, in hopes that may bring me better luck.

Seriously though, they are never this bad. I don't know if it was the craptacular winter we had or the pregnancy, or a combination of both, but this will be an interesting spring/summer!

I haven't had any luck with Clartin or Zyrtec since getting pregnant. My big thing with allergies sucking this year, is that for some reason sneezing makes me gag, and sometimes puke. So does all the excess phlegm. Yuck.

I take Claritin durning day an Zyrtec at night. Only half a dose of Zyrtec cuz it wipes me out! The generic at SAMs club of course. That stuff is expensive. Takes about 3 days to kick in but is keep up on it now. I also start it early fall as well. Flonase is pretty good too. I don't know if you can take pregnant though.

My allergies have been awful too. I have been taking Claritin every morning. I forgot it yesterday and was punished all day. Couldn't stop sneezing, could barely keep my eyes open, throat itches, and my nose is like a faucet. With that said, I saw what a huge difference the Claritin makes for me .

Flonase is a class c drug I believe. My midwife doesn't recommend it unless there is a good reason. The studies on the ingredients in flonase showed potential issues in rats, but they were given much higher concentrations injected into their bodies, whereas you inhale a much lighter concentration and it joins your blood stream through the nasal passages, so your body's receipt of the medicine is slightly different.

There have been no studies in humans, so it's only recommended if the benefits outweigh the costs. (better to be safe and avoid if possible logic)
