Weaning but I might be doing it wrong

Ds is almost 10 months old. He's been ebf and I'm starting to wean but I don't think my definition of weaning it the same. He nurses 5 times a day and 3 at night. I started pumping and am replacing 2 of those feelings with bottles. Is weaning cutting feelings all together? I'm just trying to get him not to nurse. We go on vacation in 4 months I don't have to worry about leaving him. Any advice?

I think that weaning has different meanings to different people. Technically I think that when you start solids, you are beginning the weaning process because your baby is getting something other than breast milk. When I weaned DD1 I found it best to let her decide when to wean. I also work full time so she was already getting bottles with bm during the day. She slowly started going longer between feedings because she was getting so much nutrition from solids.

For me, weaning = cutting out nursing sessions (and replacing them with something other than BM).

I started weaning DS when he turned 10 months. I SAH and I EBF'ed (he didn't like bottles or frozen BM). He was nursing 6x/day (daytime only, he STTN) and I dropped him to 5x/day. At 11m, we went to 4x/day. After he turned 1, we introduced small amts of WCM and I dropped him to 3x/day. He was weaned completely when he turned 16m. I probably could have weaned him quicker from a physical point of view, but emotionally I wasn't ready. I was happy with the timeline I did.
