Woven wrap/moby users, come in!

Curious what carries y'all are doing. I am using a size 6 woven and have managed 3 so far---front wrap cross carry (I like the inside-out way that's the typical way to tie the moby), front cross carry, and kangaroo carry (I still have to look at instructions with that one, but the other 2 I can do on my own). I really want to learn Robin's hip carry but I have not yet been successful. I keep thinking he's going to fall out the bottom!

What are other baby-wearers up to? Has anyone besides @Nickiechan‌ been brave enough to try a back carry? (Not me!!)

Re: Woven wrap/moby users, come in!

  • When you do your robins hip carry do you do the X finish like your FWCC? Or do you tie under bum?

I've been using my short wrap in a rebozo tummy to tummy carry, FCC, FWCC (in my 6s), Double hammock(DH), Rear Rebozo Reinforced Rucksack(RRRR or the pirate carry. :P), Ruck tied at shoulder (TAS).

It is worth noting that back carries with a newborn/infant should be practice with great caution and I would not recommend a new baby wearer to attempt one until the baby had good head control or even sitting up on his/her own and Only after master at least 2 front carries to get a feel on how the fabric feels and can be manipulated. I've been baby wrapping for a long time and know what a secure back carry feels like. Once you feel comfortable with your front carries and have the confidence to try a back carry then practice over a bed or with a spotter with a mirror.

i wear LO in the moby, 'hug hold' only for right now.  She is still fairly petit at 5 weeks old.  Most of the time she loves it, but sometimes she seems uncomfortable and I wish I could try some other positions for her, but I worry about her sliding around/out.

I also have an Ergo but don't know where the infant insert is, as I was last using it with DD#1 when she was already a year old.

ETA:  @pepperedmoth - was your LO born on 3/31?  I think our babies share a birthday!

I have a moby and a size 6 woven.  I've been doing FWCC and FCC in the woven.  I use FCC the most because I like that I can pre-tie it, and also that it ties in the front for me.  I've done the kangaroo a couple times, but have a harder time getting that one on.  There was a youtube video by babywearingfaith that I found helpful with that.  I'm going to wait on back carries until he has better head control...I don't like the idea of his head wobbling around back there without me being able to see him.

I have an ergo and borrowed an infant insert.  But for some reason figuring that thing out feels more challenging than the woven!

  • Hahaha I'm such a newb!

I love my moby...so does Cam! He takes the BEST naps! I've only attempted the hug hold...

Clearly there's way more to learn!!

@ma&cb that's why I like the FCC! If you do the inside-out version of FWCC (dunno what it's called!) that one can be pre-tied too.

Yeah, the back carries make me anxious....mostly because I'm afraid I'll drop him!

I use a size 6 woven and we're mostly using FWCC right now and sometimes FCC. I'm working on the newborn ruck and secure high back carry. I wrapped with DS, but he was not a fan of back carries.
  • I have a Moby. I love it for when I go grocery shopping and used it last weekend when we went to an evening event. DD typically fusses when I initially put her in it but after about a minute she conks out. I tried the hug hold but found now her legs seem too long to be squished in there, so I do the kangaroo hold now.

  • I have a moby and use the hug hold with his legs out. I did put him in front facing for about 20 minutes at the mall the other day. I could tell when he was over it and getting too stimulated and I turned him around. He immediately passed out lol
  • Is 6 weeks too young to try the hug hold with the legs out with a moby?? Online it says that position should be used when they are 3 to 4 months.... but I was wanting to try it just didnt want to hurt him

@pepperedmoth I tried the robin's hip carry today, and I found it to be really secure when tying in the back because I crossed under his bum which made a little x for him to sit on in addition to the seat.  My only complaint was I felt like it dug in my neck a bit - I need to play with it to see how to get the shoulder out of my neck a little.  But thanks for suggesting it, I hadn't thought to try that one yet!

Ooh, and I just tried popping him out and then back in again, and did it!  I think I'll wear him like this to DS1's mother's day tea at preschool today...since I just spent an inordinate amount of time trying to get it right!

  • I can no longer do the newborn hug hold in my moby - R just doesn't like his feet in like that anymore.  So our current fave is the FWCC, though I am still practicing wrapping it just right.  He has fantastic head control but will randomly lean back, so I have to be careful when wrapping him.  Once he's in and tight, he feels very snug and secure.  I'm still loving the moby, but wondering what I'll do to get through the hot summer months here!

I second this, wondering what to get for the warmer weather. I'm sure I could go digging through threads and find recommendations but in playing the lazy card....
DH's cousin recommended the linen ring slings...thoughts? Anything anyone highly recommends?
    Muchas gracias!
