Cloth Diapering

Pottying Out of the House

Does anybody use one of those fold-up potty seats for the PTing LOs to use when you're out of the house? I'm wondering if they would be worth the hassle. If you don't use one, how do you get a boy to pee on a public toilet?

  • LOL @mandmeesh. Where are you doing your business that has a urinal, lady? :p

@SAK I am still amazed that you can leave the house with three kids. I told DH my limit is two b/c that's the number of hands I have. (I'm joking but really not.) So I honestly ask this with all sincerity, is it physically possible to hold a 2 year old on the potty while wearing a NB? I keep Chlorox wipes in the diaper bag now, so the germ thing doesn't skeeve me out too much. I just have crazy worries about being able to keep up with both of these kiddos.

  • We have one. I love it, bc sometimes public bathrooms are just nasty.
Which one do you have? The Potette Plus looks like it would work the best, but I'm not sure I would want to tote it around all the time. I drive a sedan right now, so I can't just put it in the back and let him potty in the vehicle like some moms I know who have vans and SUVs.

  • My kid will hardly ever pee except at home. She says she needs to, takes one look at the bathroom, and changes her mind. Fortunately she can hold it like she has a hollow leg.

I'm totally panicking about this. I'm a total germaphobe especially regarding public toilets.

We have a $5 plastic potty from IKEA that has worked great.  It's easy to clean and fairly small, so it wouldn't take up much room in the trunk of your car.  We only use it when it's more of a potty emergency ie no public restroom or the distance to get to one may not be worth the risk of an accident on the way.  My DD1 is 2.5 and has been PTing for about two months.  I imagine we won't need the car potty once she gets a little better at knowing when she has to go.

(Sorry for the lack of a ticker.  I'm bump-challenged and couldn't figure out how to post one.)
  • We picked up a multi-function one from BRU that can lay flat against a big seat or can be propped up into a free-standing potty for on the go (think: pulling over on the side of the road).

We haven't actually used it yet. So far, I've just layered TP on public toilet seats and held DD1 in place while she goes.

  • we put our boys(we only have boys so far, #3 is still unkown) on backwards...the oldest now stands. I hate public bathrooms, but personally abhor the idea of bringing my own potty. We also never used a baby potty. Everyone went on the big potty backwards, has always worked great. My boys potty trained (really all by themselves for the most part) in a very short period of time. Oldest was out of all diapers in a week at a little less than 2.5yrs. 2nd one started pooping in the potty at 20 months and was out of all diapers by 2yrs more or less. But this has to be said...they were both very self motivated, it really was all their idea and I hardly feel like I know how to train a baby to potty. And at the risk of being flogged, they were both disposable diapered, but I never hesitated to let them run naked a lot once I noticed that they were leaving their diapers dry for extended periods. Baby #3 is our first potential cloth diaper baby...hence why I'm hanging out here trying to get info.

  • I've never heard of putting them on backwards. We'll have to try that!
