What do YOU want for Mother's Day?

We've discussed what we're doing for our mom's and MIL's, but what about you?

Re: What do YOU want for Mother's Day?

  • honestly, I'd love to spend the day alone doing some shopping, lunch, mani/pedi.  Then I'd love to come home at about 5 in time for a dinner with DH and the kids and have family night.

That's not happening.  I'm going to breakfast with my mom, gram, aunt and sisters.  Then something, not sure yet, in the afternoon with the inlaws.

  • I just want to sleep in and have a nice breakfast. I could care less about gifts. I will love the pictures the kids make me at daycare.

DH keeps bugging me to tell him something, but I honestly can't think of anything.  I know we are going to lunch Sunday after church and I'm happy to not have to cook.  We are also going on a little family getaway Memorial Day weekend to the zoo, so I'm counting that.

  • I want to do what my sister-in-law is doing for Mother's Day, ditching the family and sunbathing by the pool with her kids. I'm not doing this for a few reasons one of which is I have a two-year-old and going to the pool with him right now is sort of the opposite of relaxing.

Instead I am hosting my mother, sisters, and mother-in-law at our home for fajitas. It will be fine, it was my idea, but, again, my SIL is doing it right.

  • I would love to get a mani/pedi with my mom, but I'm not sure when we will have time to do it.

  • We're not doing gifts this year. I told DH I just wanted a nice quiet lunch after church with just him and DS (and the in-laws would be ok too). He told me that his sister is coming to town this weekend and the whole family is getting together for May birthdays and Mother's Day. I love them, but 7 kids under 8 (including three 2 year old boys) and 12 adults makes for a loud, chaotic time. I am hoping they get together another time during the weekend and that DH remembers my one wish.
  • I would like to go out to brunch, but not bring the kids.  Taking four kids out for brunch is work.

Kelly, Mom to Christopher Shannon 9.27.06, Catherine Quinn 2.24.09, Trey Barton lost on 12.28.09, Therese Barton lost on 6.10.10, Joseph Sullivan 7.23.11, and our latest, Victoria Maren 11.15.12

Secondary infertility success with IVF, then two losses, one at 14 weeks and one at 10 weeks, then success with IUI and then just pure, crazy luck.  Expecting our fifth in May as the result of a FET.

I too would love to go out alone for some shopping and spa time.  Not happening since our house is under major renovation.... and I agree with other PP...I really don't want to spend it with my in-laws even though I love them....I just want some me time. (sigh) oh well

  • I just want whatever DS makes me at DC. I would also love to go get a mani/pedi and relax watching my favorite tv show all day.

  • I would have liked to not have to make my own brunch reservations... but alas, if I didn't do it, we wouldn't have anywhere to go :(
  • I want my husband to get out of bed first without my asking. I want him to set an alarm for himself that gets him out of bed before our toddler wakes up. I want him to clean the kitchen and then make an awesome breakfast that *I* enjoy, and pay enough attention while making it to not burn it or serve it raw, and serve it to me in bed. My daughter should "help" of course - which she loves to do now in the kitchen, so she'll be part of the cooking exercise.

Or, he could just get up first, get our kid dressed & ready for the day while I take a leisurely shower and then have reservations ready for us at one of my favorite brunch places. My daughter's present to me would be no whining for the whole morning.

  • I would like DS to create an art project at school or daycare, to be able to take a nap and DH to grill me some chicken and corn on the cob.

Omg, I *love* getting the little things DS makes at DC.  It is my favorite thing about Mother's Day!

  • A nap.  We don't do gifts for Mother's/Father's Day and also, this Sunday is DS1's 4th birthday.  We'll probably go to the zoo.

  • I was going to say really nothing out of the norm - would like to sleep in, but DH and normally split the weekend anyway. A pedicure would be nice and maybe going to the beach.

But alas, DH just told me he has to work this weekend. His squadron sucks. As if it isn't bad enough they are deploying in two months, he has to work all the time. So it will just be me and my kids, probably facetiming with Grandmas.

I am shocked, however, that DH just asked me for his mom's address and is sending her flowers. Normally I always have to do that.

  • This is what I have requested:  A stop for coffee (milk box for DS) on our way to pick out spring flowers for planting outside.  Not sure if the weather will cooperate, but I'll definitely get coffee.

I've also been hinting that I need new pearl stud earrings since I lost one.  DH didn't get the hint (I asked him this morning).  So, I'm sending over a link right now so that DH can order them :)

Planning to drive to the shore for the day (about 90 min drive), walk on boardwalk and have a nice lunch somewhere. I just want to have a family day. I get cranky approaching mother's day b/c my Mom is no longer with us but one of those paper flowers from school (or whatever craft) makes me so happy. :)

DS does this thing called the healthy kids running series and they are having a run (the last one of the season) on Mother's day at 5:30. I'm kind of miffed about this cause now will have to rush back. I know we don't HAVE to go but it's the last one and he is excited for it and he'll get a medal for participating. We'll have to see how it goes.

  • All I would like is DH to get up early (I am always up first every morning) to make me a cup of tea for me to lay in bed and enjoy. Then for him to make breakfast, all by himself with me having to instruct him while he takes care of DS and keeps DS happy and distracted so he doesn't keep coming to look for me. Then I don't want to do any housework the entire day. I don't mind making lunch and dinner though. And I absolutely don't want anything to do with my in-laws. They can stay far, far away.

  • I asked DH for a teak glider bench from Sams Club so I suspect that is what I'll get.

In addition SIL made brunch reservations for allll of us (4 moms and their families).  But I'm so tired and been fighting off upper respiratory infections for weeks now.  I'm thinking I might just decline.  But DH might not go for that so we'll see.

Also, today is our 9 year anniversary and neither of us got each other anything or planned anything...nor really care...we're just a bit overwhelmed at present

I got a tablet for Mother's Day a bit early, so I can't complain. I think I will also be getting a "MOM" pic from DD's daycare. But since you asked...

If it was my choice, casual lunch and coffee along with outlet mall shopping.  No complaining!

OR - DH to plan a date down to the details for once (babysitter, where to eat, what to do, etc.).  Or he and DD can clean the house while I go shopping by myself.

To sleep in!  That is all I want.  I am tired all the time, and DH has been out of town for over a week now, so I'm doing it all by myself (while pregnant).  Thankfully DH comes back Saturday, so I plan to have my face mask on and ear plugs in until at least 10 am on Sunday morning.

Honestly, all I want is my hubby to make an effort.  Being a FTM with a 2.5 mo old, I'm not expecting much from her, clearly.  LOL  But he knows things like this matter to me, I like the memories, and I don't want to feel like I have to ask for something.  He already asked me what I wanted, and I told him I wanted him to make an effort, he knows me well enough to figure something out.

(Just need to add in there, he NEVER makes an effort with gifts or occasions.  Our first Valentine's Day, he called me the day of and asked me what I wanted because he didn't know what to get me.  At this point, you don't have to be the best gift giver ever, just go to the dang grocery store and actually READ a couple cards and pick one you think I'd like.)

Sounds exactly like MH.  So, I make sure to buy myself whatever I really want :)

  • What I really want is for DH to surprise me with a trip to the elective u/s place to find out the sex of the baby. I'm certain that he won't because my OB said no with my last pregnancy, and he knows that I actually do like to follow doctor's orders most of the time (within reason).

My dad is cooking for us, though, so that's nice. Not sure what else we will do.
Gender determination before 19-20 weeks is way inaccurate.  The little fetus barely has parts down there.  Save the money and wait for a more accurate assessment at your anatomy scan.
