Fussy and frequent feedings in the evening.

My son is almost three weeks old. Over the last few days he has been very fussy in the evening. I change him and try rocking, bouncing, humming, etc. but the only thing that calms him for very long is breast feeding. It's not even an hour after his last feeding and he seems to want more. Is this normal for his age? Is this common behavior if he is going through a growth spurt? At his two week checkup earlier this week, he had surpassed his birth weight of 6lbs 12oz, weighing 7.3lbs.

Our LO eats about every hour when he's awake. It makes up for the longer stretches he goes without eating while he's sleeping (especially at night).

We found that our baby was getting really over-stimulated in the afternoon, and have tried to do any "activity" in the morning (tummy time, etc). It seems to help him to chill out and unwind toward the end of the day.

Mine does the same thing! It happens every evening from 7-10. All he wants to do is be on the boob. He has reflux and I haven't figured out if it's his belly that is bothering him, a cluster feed, or what! When he is feeding he pulls at the nipple and is grunting, but then gets upset when I take him off. Glad I'm not the only one going through this. Sorry I don't have an answer. Trying to figure it out myself. I thought it was a growth spurt at first, but it happens every night.

It's the witching hour for babies. Very normal. I always try to put them down for the night before the hour hits, but it doesn't always work out that way.

Babies don't follow rules like eating every 2 hours. Feeding on demand means sometimes it's every hour. Plié like pp - there is the witching hour.

Mine doesn't cluster feed every night, but he does it a few nights a week and will feed every 45 minutes to an hour. He also feeds this way during a growth spurt so it could be either!

I've noticed the same thing in my LO (7 days old). He gets very fussy between 7 and 10pm, and wants to eat every 1-2 hours during this time. After 10 or 11pm he settles down, and spaces feedings back to every 2.5-3 hours.

Thanks everyone! It's good to know I'm not the only one dealing with this. I'm planning on introducing him to a bottle in a week or two, so if he keeps this up, my husband can help feed him too.
