Naps?

Forgive me if we've already covered this. I don't get to check in here as often as I'd like! :)

For the past two nights, DS has been waking up with night terrors. They're awful and last for an hour or two before he finally settles down and falls back to sleep. He doesn't seem to be awake during them and nothing helps. He just screams and throws himself around. I was doing some researching (ohh Dr. Google!) and I think it may be happening because he's overtired. We had cut out morning naps a few weeks ago and he was doing well with just one nap a day. But now it's finally getting nicer here so he's getting a lot more outside time - both at daycare and in the evenings. Since he's running around outside more, do you think I should add that morning nap back in? He goes to an in-home daycare so his provider is totally fine with adding it back.

I would add it back in. The nice weather is also helping DD to become more sleepy, and she's sometimes taking another nap in the am to compensate.

  • I too have been dealing with night terrors since December. I followed DDs lead in dropping AM nap around that time. I switched back to 2 naps, they still happened. It's a crap shoot. They have been getting better. She'll scream for 20 seconds to 20 mins.
Same thing.. throwing herself around, never really standing up or aware of whats going on. Sometimes she'll have 5 to 10 episodes a night. But it never effects her daily routine/day.

I've tried anything and everything to stop it. From dream catchers to singling out food groups. No real help, just saying I feel your pain. It sucks. I don't sleep well anymore because I am so worried about her. It came out of nowhere too.

Hopefully it's a phase for our babies.
  • I have no experience with this but I was also going to suggest trying an earlier bedtime. For us DS's bedtime is between 6:30 and 7; and if I stretch him by an hour he ends up being restless all night. Sorry you are going through this. Hopefully it stops soon.

  • Thanks for the input ladies! It's nice to know we aren't alone. We tried two naps yesterday and he did okay last night. I really hope this is just a phase! It breaks my heart to see his little face so upset.
