Quick crib discussion

Which do you prefer the 4 in 1 convertible cribs or the basic crib? I hear the 4 in 1's are great in theory but most never end up converting them.

We are getting the basic convertible where you can remove one side when they start climbing, but that's about it.

Space-wise we haven't even considered converting a crib to a double/full sized bed for twins. We just don't have the bedroom space for that.

  • We did the 4 in 1 with our previous kids and only converted it to the second step- the toddler bed. Now they're going to be sharing a room and we're getting bunk beds. It's hard to know what you're going to need/want years to come so, from experience, I would say the 4 in 1 isn't necessary. For the twins we're getting cribs that convert to toddler beds but that's it.
  • We are still in the crib stage but I bought the Graco Lauren crib which converts without needing to buy any extra pieces or kit. I have no idea if we will actually convert them but at 150$ I don't care if we do or not!

This is what we did too.  I kind of doubt we'll ever actually convert it, but it was inexpensive and I liked the look of it.  I actually had a hard time finding cribs that were NOT convertible.  It seems like 80% of them are now and the few that I found that weren't I didn't like for various reasons.

  • We did Ikea cribs that only convert to toddler beds.  I think I will more than likely want to put all the kids in twin beds instead of full size when they outgrow the toddler beds.

  • I also have the Ikea cribs (we have 3 of them).  They are super affordable and we took off the one side for my 3 yo, and once she is closer to 4 I will buy her a real bed.  I plan to do the same with my twins.

  • I prefer the ones that only convert to toddler beds by taking off the side. I don't like the huge 4-in-1 ones that convert all the way to a full size or whatnot. So expensive.

  • Basic crib-to-toddler-bed here, too. Once they're too big to sleep in them with just the side off, we'll be moving them to a bunk bed anyway. We don't have the room for two separate full beds.

  • For DS we got a 4-in-1 and he is currently sleeping in the full size bed.

For the twins, we bought two Graco Macie cribs. They convert to toddler beds and after that we will either put them in twins or bunks.
