2nd Trimester

Baby moving/kicking!

I am 16 weeks pregnant and I started feeling the baby move a few days ago. :) Would feel flutters a few times a day, especially right before bed.  But its now been 2 days since I have felt anything at all, its making me panic and I am worried something could be wrong.  Have any of you experienced a lack of movement for a few days?  Should I call my dr.?

Re: Baby moving/kicking!

  • Too early for consistent predictable movement. There is still so much wiggle room in there.

  • I felt my baby for the first time at 16 weeks, it was awesome! But then there was nothing for about two more weeks, then it was totally off and on, there would be two or three days in a row where I wouldn't feel anything. Around 20 weeks I started to notice a schedule, I would feel her at 10am and 2pm, and 6pm. Now at 24 weeks it seems like she is constantly turning and twisting around.

  • Try to exercise patience. There is no reason to call your doc for not feeling consistent movement at 16 weeks.

I thought I felt movement at 16 weeks as well.  But then after the two subsequent weeks saw little to NO feelings of movement, I realized that those early "movements" were probably just stretching and gas.  Seriously.  It's only now, at just about 19 weeks, that I am feeling small flutters that feel unique enough and make me say, "wait a minute...whoa, that's new, that must be him!"

From friends, family, and websites I have surmised that really regular movement is a 20+ week thing.  I think you're worrying over nothing.  Trust me, I've done plenty of that myself!  On this one, though, def listen to all the ladies here.  I should have listened/be listening myself more early in pregnancy when I have been worrying so much.  Nothing to worry about!!
  • Stop worrying and there's really no need to call your dr. 16 weeks is too early for consistent movement. Baby is still quite small and have tons of wiggle room in there. Movements will be more consistent sometime after 26-28 weeks. Be patient and try to relax.
  • :::lurking::: I haven't posted on this board before, but I literally just posted on the pregnant after a loss board about this! I started feeling flutters a couple of weeks ago, consistently on a daily basis then it stopped for over a week. So yesterday I called the MW (they said this sounds normal) but they offered for me to come in and do a doppler check, so I did. Baby's hb was galloping away! MW said it is very common not to feel it for long periods of time at this stage, but that it can be very frustrating! Luckily she was so supportive and didn't make me feel stupid, even thought I still feel stupid! :)

  • With my first it was 20 weeks, DS2 was 15 weeks, and this one a few days ago. You probably felt baby, but don't expect it to be consistent for while like PP said.
