Formula Question

We recently started supplementing so I'm a noob when it comes to formula.

I looked up information online before I started to supplement so as of now, we usually use bottled water and boil it first. I boil it each time before use and I wait for it to cool down (about 5 minutes) before preparing the formula.

I ran out of bottled water today so I've been using tap water and still boiling.

What water do you use? Do you still boil it or is this more meant for newborns? I find a lot of conflicting information online.

I forgot to ask her ped at her last appt.

Re: Formula Question

  • Visiting from A'13 (see other post)....BUT at this age tap is fine.  My ped actually recommends it for the fluoride.  We still switch between that and bottled (no boiling).  GL!

  • ^^Same as above.  I use filter water from fridge and heat it in bottle warmer..no boiling.

  • My ped said at this age tap is fine. They actually prefer it at this age because the tap water has fluoride. Since you're just supplementing I see no problem with it.
  • We've used tap since the very beginning.  Bottled only if i have to make a bottle while we're out.  Now that he's got teeth, I've been using nursery water as our tap water doesn't have fluoride in it.

  • We use purified water. Our tap water is not clean enough and I want to minimize her exposure to fluoride.
  • We exclusively use nursery water at home and I use plain bottled water when we are out and about. I am not boiling a a darn thing. And we also don't heat his bottles, we only warmed them when they were sitting in the fridge.
Visiting as well.  :-h We're the same as @starscream. Love that we don't have to warm bottles.

    Good luck! :)

  • I've been formula from the beginning as my milk never came in and we have always used purified bottled water, not boiled, and bottles at room temperature.

  • We use tap water or filtered fridge water.

Each morning I use a formula pitcher with room temp/warm water from the tap and make a days worth of milk. She drinks the first bottle then and the rest goes in the fridge. I use a bottle warmer the rest of the day to just take the chill off.

    Exactly this.

We just use tap. Not all tap water has fluoride though, so if you are hoping to expose LO to fluoride through the water make sure you check your town. My town does not have fluoride in the tap water.

  • Tap water, no boiling. Just warm out of the faucet.
  • Tap water since the beginning. Never boiled water. Only warmed up if been in the fridge. Usually pre-fill bottles from tap and add formula as needed.

  • I just started supplementing a month ago so I spent hours researching the same thing. I came to the decision that tap water was fine.

  • We use bottled when we are out, and sometimes at home...but at home we use tap. And I've never boiled the water, our pediatrician said that it really wasn't necessary,
