September 2013 Moms

ordering food

DH, LO and I went to Red Robin (....yum) this weekend and the waiter asked if we wanted to order for LO. LO is just a few days over 7m and is still EBF and has solids at home and more recently daycare. It surprised me when he asked, but then I realized it may not be that uncommon for LOs to be ordered for. Do any of the S13 moms order for their September babies yet?

Re: ordering food

  • Not yet with this LO. But with DS1 we started ordering him a cup of applesauce around 9 months if I had forgotten to bring something with us.

  • We order water and bring a purée with us because she has gotten to where she's upset if we are eating and she isn't. Like PP said, I've ordered apple sauce if we forget food. My LO can't even handle puffs yet so ordering at a restaurant is far off for us I believe. She will be 8 months this week.
  • Mashed potatoes. She'll be 8 months next weekend.

  • We sometimes order him some sliced apples, but usually no...if I'm eating something he can eat, I'll take it off my plate. Otherwise, we ask for water for his sippy cup, and we bring his purée.

  • I bring puree with me and have not ordered for her yet. If we went out for breakfast, which we haven't yet, I would probably get a side of scrambled eggs for her though.
  • I have started giving him puffs to play with. I bring a purée with us. I have taken banana off our plate to mash for him. But I have yet to order anything for him. He turned 8 months last week.
  • I haven't ordered for her and probably won't for quite some time (we'll share), but I have asked for a couple slices of apple or avocado before.

  • I haven't been asked outright but waiters have given LO a kids menu and a crayon (!!!)

I always bring a purée as LO is 7.5 month. We'll be trying more "real" food soon.

We had a coloring menu and crayons brought to us before too haha. We've also been asked if he would like some crackers. We usually just give him purree or a bottle.

  • LO is 7.5 months and we eat out all the time. We have never ordered her food and have never even been asked if we want to. We usually feed purees at the restaurant though.
  • No, I just give him a bit of food off my plate. We also got crayons at Red Robin last weekend, which I was a little surprised at. But I figure kid sizes can vary quite a bit so it's probably easier to just offer them.

No but my minivan is like a rolling grocery store with the amount of snacks I keep on hand for these two. There are always crackers and other easy things we can grab for her and then I let her pick at something from our plates for variety.

I just recently started ordering for DS who is 3. And he never finishes his plate, even a kids portion.

We don't out much but the thought to ordered something never crossed my mind. We feed either breastmilk or purées before/after we go. Also I think it will be a while before we order anything for him and just give him some of our meals. Kids menus kind of disgust me and adult portions tend to be oversized so we can share.

  • When you bring purree how do you keep it cold? And then how do u warm it up at the restaurant?

If you need to keep it cold, you can get a little soft-sided cooler and an ice pack.

I always pack something for her. But a couple times I have been unprepared and ordered avocado for her. I try to always keep at least a pouch and some puffs on hand, but that doesn't always happen.

We still rarely order a seperate meal for our 3 1/2 year old actually. He just eats what I eat and with portion sizes these days, there is more than enough to go around.

If I'm taking food along with me I usually just bring something in a pouch or jar that I can serve room temp.  I won't serve meat at room temp because that really grosses me out, but I'll do fruit or veggies that way.  If I bring something I made myself I usually throw it in the cooler that come with my pump and put an icepack in.  If you need to warm it up you can always run it under warm water or ask for some hot water for tea and let it warm in there.
  • I've been asked if I want to order for LO, and while I do take her into account when ordering my own food, I have yet to order anything separate for her.

She eats what I'm eating, and I'll try to find something that is easy to cut/break into small pieces for her to gum on.  She also loves to drink water using a straw - she hasn't figured out sucking through a straw yet, so I just hold my finger over the end of it to transfer the water into her mouth.
