2nd Trimester

braxton hicks, 27.5 weeks

Is anyone else experiencing braxton hicks yet?  For some reason today I kept getting them.  I can't seem to recall when they started with my last pregnancy!  I know around 34 weeks I started getting them a lot and had my DD around 37 weeks.  I'm trying to remember when they started last time and if this is normal.  I have an appointment tomorrow so figured I would ask doctor.

  • I started getting them early. My stomach and back contracts and the baby starts kicking really hard because everything tightens around her. OB told me that with each pregnancy they start earlier and are more intense.

drink lots of water, try to relax and don't stress

  • I started getting them around 16-18 weeks with both pregnancies. Make sure you stay hydrated and keep an eye on them if they get stronger or happen more frequently.

    Did you deliver c-section?

You are more likely to "feel" them earlier with a prior c because your uterus has a weak spot in it. It goes to grow and can sense a difference. It contracts to re-stretch itself out.

But besides that you can get them as early as 6 weeks. I have felt them pretty strong throughout the day since 8 weeks but I'm on a baby 3 with 2 c/s under my belt.

Walk around, drink some water, change positions. It is when they are timed ones you need to make sure you watch them but BH feels different to me than contractions for labor.
  • Ftm, I started getting them around 15 weeks or so.
