Holy Shit. Mom Fail.

Soooooooooooo I feel like the absolute scum of the earth worst mom ever.

E had her 3 month pictures today and she was super fussy towards the end so I plopped her in her carseat/stroller while the lady explained to me the packages and tried to sell me crap and blah blah. I rocked her until she fell asleep. We left the mall, I plopped the carseat into the base and away we went. I FORGOT TO BUCKLE HER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank God we live like a mile away from the mall but seriously how could I be so stupid!?!?!?!? There's no excuse but I blame it on being totally tired and absent minded. I am so thankful we got home without issue. I would have never forgiven myself. EVER. Did anyone else do this before?

  • I've never not buckled her, but I have not tightened the straps so that she was securely fastened in her carseat

HAHA Thanks for the hug. It was def a lesson learned. I ALWAYS check her but today just didn't. Now I will be sure to check her five times over. Thank goodness I learned this lesson with such a short distance but they say most accidents happen close to home. Oy! I'm not telling anyone but you guys bc my mom would murder me. She used to teach seat belts, car seats, airbags, etc. when I grew up with the sheriff's office. She's nanners about that stuff.

  • Yes of course we have done this or something similar. We are only human! And our parents probably did way worse. We are all ok!
  • in the middle of the night last night i leaned LO on the pillow on the couch i didnt get up or anything but turned to the other side to grab her bottle and she just about rolled off the couch and i JUST caught her by her butt before she hit the floor. At least you caught her! Last week when I was looking for something in the rental van we had, I sat her on the seat, she naturally tipped towards me, and wacked her head on the seat belt clicker thing. She wailed. I failed. UGH!

@minnesotamomma91 - One of my ex bfs uncles and aunts were mega rich and she would fly from FL to NYC for baby classes, had their showers and stuff at the Ritz, and had a cake from a celeb baker in NYC. Anyway, I could go on and on. Point being, they chose to act like bumps and falls and head smacks were no big deal bc they believed kids responded to their parents reactions. So if mom was like OMG BABY ARE YOU OKAY SO SAD and freaked, the baby would freak and cry. I have to say I witnessed it and it worked. Its hard to get used to but it works, so maybe you're doing the right thing :)

  • OMG, yes! Exactly! Harley only cries when she falls and I react. Unless she falls and actually hurts herself.

Once when DD was much smaller I was just getting home for the day and put DD in her swing.  We never belted her in because she was so little she couldn't get out if she wanted to.  Well, that day she did.  Flopped right out of her swing like a little fish.  After that she ALWAYS had to wear her seat belt when she was swinging.  I felt pretty horrible.

Then once BD had her on the couch changing her.  I TOLD him to watch her because she was starting to get wiggly.  Sure enough, he turned his head for a second and she rolled right off the couch. The way my couch cushions are made makes it hard for her to do that even now.  Needless to say, he felt pretty horrible, too.

Needless to say, shit's gonna happen.
  • What @tig594 said. Kids are kids, mistakes happen.

I'm paranoid about her falling off the couch or off the bed or off her swing. She flipped over in her bouncy seat (didn't fall off and I was right there) so from now on, she's buckled. She's growing too fast!

  • JT fell off the couch once too. And the other day he fell into it and we thought he broke his nose (well the ER dr. told me he did, but the ENT said it actually wasn't). My kids need a helmet and bubble wrap around them 24/7 with a mask.
  • At least nothing bad happened and you'll be sure to remember every single time from now on :)

They just had this in a BabyCenter email and like 70% of parents admit to doing this and like 80% didnt realize it until they were home...soooo yeah I don't feel so bad and I am glad nothing happened. Lesson learned.
