Working Moms

Sick DS/daycare

The last week or so DS has been a little off. Hasnt had as much of an appetite as usual and my normally good sleeper has been waking up multiple times a night. I was blaming it on possible molars (he is 15 mos), tho advil didnt seem to help him sleep any better. He isnt really cranky or acting abnormal...just the eating and sleep issue and then last night i noticed some fairly bad diaper rash. Over the weekend we were at a bday party and he was walking in the grass barefoot. on sunday i noticed some small red dots on both his feet, they havent gone away but havent gotten worse either..regardless i made an appt with my pedi for tomorrow when i can take him just to have it looked at if they are still there. Well today I came into work and told a guy I work with about the issue and he is telling me its likely coxsackie virus and all his kids have had it. I called back the pedi and am taking him in at 4pm today. My question is, would you leave work and go pick him up early, or just leave him there. I did call to check in and they said hes totally fine, eating normal, just seems sleepy and was about to nap. i dont KNOW for sure that its coxsackie but i did look up the symptoms and they do match. i feel terrible thinking about the fact that he could be infecting other children if he is actually sick...but i have no idea if thats what it is, and want to save my days/hours out of the office for when we really need it. Thoughts? What would you do?

Re: Sick DS/daycare

  • @privacywanted yes it is (which i didnt know until he mentioned it and i googled)....my parents had him last friday and my dad thought he felt warm and gave him advil. by the time i got home, he had no temperature and hasnt had one since. the rash is on his feet, a little on his thighs and back of his bum and then he has really bad diaper rash. Its not bumps tho, its literally just red dots. He could be fighting something off, sometimes rashes occur at the end of a number of viruses in kids. I decided not to pick him up until 345, when we head to the doctor. If DC was concerned about the rash, i figured they would call me...(MOTY?!)

  • Just wanted to say my DS had HFM last year and it wasn't a big deal. I don't know if we were just lucky, but he wasn't that sick or uncomfortable. So try not to worry.

  • HFM is usually preceded by a HIGH fever for a few days. However, the first time DS had it we never noticed that. It did happen the second time, though.
