NCDR: Booze and babies

I want to get wine for some girls coming over tonight. Do I take the baby with me to the liquor store?!

Somehow I feel like that's just wrong. "Like mama needs her booze SOOO BAD she's gotta bring the baby to the liquor store."

Thoughts? Anyone done it?

I haven't taken a baby but I went when I was really pregnant.  I think I was buying a gift or something.  Just make sure you're dressed very neatly and don't look like an alcoholic, lol.  They'll get over it. :)

I've taken her.  You might get looks, but at least it's a store, not a bar.  (I've also taken E to a bar.)

  • I buy wine at the grocery store. Our liquor stores don't usually have buggies and those glass bottles are heavy! If we need actual liquor, I send DH out for it so I don't have to balance DS and the bottles. And yeah, I do kind of wonder what someone would think about me hauling my toddler up into the ABC store, so that has a little bit to do with it. :p

LLOL!  I'd take him.  I guess I'm at the point in my life where I don't care enough about what other people think!  I also go pick DS1 up from school wearing workout clothes.  Is that taboo?

The one exception is if the liquor store was in a small town with people who know me & my mom.  I care what my mom thinks.  She would not approve!

  • I've taken LO to a liquor store.  I don't feel like I was judged at all.

Totally go for it.  Unless LO is grabby and might break stuff ...

  • I'd take baby. I just wouldn't care what people thought. It kinda made me giggle inside when I was 9 months pregnant and buying 2 cases of Budlight at the grocery store. I got a few looks but the only thing the cashier said was "Do you need help getting that out to your car?"

  • Yeah I didn't even cross my mind until ds some up and I needed to get ready to go...

I think I'll go to trader joes in the next state over since they can sell alcohol. My state can't in grocery stores. :/

I used to work at an elementary school. Workout clothes are nothing! True story, my friend had car-rider duty (open the door, help kid out, close door) and she said one mom had to lean over to get the car door open and one of her boobs actually fell out of her top! The kicker was, she wasn't even worried about it...said goodbye to the kid and put the car in drive before she put the puppy away.

i took my kids into the liquor store before.  i worried less about the looks i got and more about my children breaking something.

and random spinoff question about booze:
in PA the state is in control of all the alcohol.  you either buy it at the state store or from a place like a restaurant/bar/distributor that holds a liquor license sold to them by the state.  you can't buy alcohol at a convenience or grocery story.  there are only a specific number of  liquor licenses that any county can have.
in states where alcohol sales are privatized, can anyone sell alcohol that wants to?  or do they still have to have a liquor license of some sort?

Wisconsin has two different licenses. One to sell and one to serve. The one to serve states that it can't leave the premises.

  • The county can also regulate alcohol sales (at least in Texas). I grew up in a dry county (they turned wet a few years back, and it was a huge deal), so if you wanted to buy alcohol you had to drive to the county line and buy it from one of the many stores set up just outside :) You could still have a glass of wine or whatever at a restaurant/bar. You just couldn't buy bottles of it to take home (this included beer and wine).

I was visiting friends in the city and took LO with me to a wine bar. I even had to nurse her at the table, then she slept while I enjoyed my glass of wine. No one cared.
