My dog is obsessed with me lately...

My dog is normally very affectionate, but for the past few weeks its gotten ridiculous how she has been acting with me. She follows me at my heels in every corner of my house, day and night. She has to be right up against me constantly if I'm on couch. I wonder if it's possible that she can sense that I'm pregnant or if maybe she can just tell something is different?

(Had to add a photo of our normal couch routine lately lol)

I really think animals are very aware of the changes happening. My cat has been cuddling with my husband nonstop. It's almost as if she knows I won't be able to be the best cuddle buddy in a few months. But then she doesn't let me out of her sight. Just crazy!

My dog has been the same way, super picky about sleeping next to me (not Hubbs) every night, following me around the house... he's even started sitting under my chair while I work at my desk. I think he knows something is up.

ETA: words that are actually words
  • One of my pups has been very needy and follows me everywhere too. It's kind of sweet and protecting.

They do know. I've read several articles about dogs detecting pregnancy, cancer, etc... It's interesting.

  • Both my dogs have been like Velcro since right before I found out I was pregnant. DH is not amused that I constantly have two dogs and he has no dogs to cuddle

My cat is the exact same way-so much to the point, she is driving me INSANE. I don't sleep well at night because if I move at all she tries to come sit on me. I think animals know what is going on!

  • I wonder what it is they're able to sense.

I make my SO and the poor dog sleep in another room because I can't sleep as it is and if they were in there, it would only add to the 3000 times I wake up in the night lol. I can only imagine between the both of them how smothered I'd be! :p
  • Same here. Last night I had my big dogs head in my lap, right next to my little doxie curled up in my lap. All evening long. It was a little ridiculous.

  • My doxie has been tucked up my ass for weeks. It's driving me nuts. Last week, she sat in my pants while I pooped.  :|

Lol I read this as "she peed in my pants while I pooped." Maybe that's because my doxie pees everywhere.

  • Oh yes! I've witnessed and heard about dogs detecting pregnancy and becoming more protective. My female dogs have been following me around like crazy, nudging my tummy, and have even begun growling if other dogs get too close to me. It's definitely been noticeable the last few months.

Since a week before I got the positive pregnancy test my dog suddenly went for being a daddy's boy to a mummy's boy. He now refuses to sit anywhere but next to me (which never happened prior to pregnancy) Plus my Dr. Asked me if I had pets. I said a dog. She responded "he knows your pregnant but just doesn't how many puppies you're having".

  • Her Velcro position as I read this thread... She's been extra clingy the past week.

My dog already followed me everywhere - even the bathroom - so I can't really tell if there's a difference.

Ditto. He's been my shadow since we got him as a puppy. I haven't noticed anything different. I just hope he likes the baby and doesn't get too jealous of my attention to her.

  • I have a male puggle and he is usually "my" dog but Holy crap the neediness is getting crazy. I can't even Crochet without doing it on top of his head... He sleeps between H and I now where before he was just at my feet. And H can't sit next to me on the couch without hunter barking at him... Its like he knows H knocked me up and wants to put a stop to it NOW!

Picture is flipped but that me trying to Crochet and hunter on my belly...

  • How precious!! My dog doesn't act much different, but our cat is definitely snuggling with me more and DH is usually his favorite - it will be interesting to see when the LO arrives!

  • My dog has been acting the same way for about the last 7 weeks now.  She is a Shepard-Husky mix and has never been a "lap dog".  As long as she is in the same room that I am, she's always been happy.  About 7 weeks ago that all changed. She will NOT leave me alone! She has to be sitting on me all the time and will not leave my side. I love her to death but I am not enjoying having a 60# lap dog.

  • Mine have been the opposite. Our Basset, Butters, has always been needy, so he always followed me everywhere - but he follows my husband everywhere too. Our Beagle, Starla, on the other hand, she has ALWAYS been my baby girl and has to sit in my lap (next to me will not do), and will fight out Basset for it. She's pretty much been keeping her distance and really doesn't want anything much to do with me like she used to.  She'll still sit next to me sometimes, but she acts like she's scared of me or something. :(

  • my female JRT has started insisting that she has to lay ON my stomach. which is quite uncomfortable, even if she is about 15 lbs. so i push her to the side and she begrudgingly just lays her head on the bump instead.
my male minpin is always attached to me and hasn't changed. but he isn't stomping all over the baby either!

this is hilarious. loving the pictures, gals.

My disabled kitty will not leave my side. His new favorite spot is right on my tummy. Don't you dare try to move him either. He will not have any of that nonsense!
