Hello,
I a new on this board! I was before on Trouble TTC, but seems like i will be moving over here...
My husband got tested with some issues and so did I. What are the odds that both of us would have fertility problems? I really feel this is a sign from God...
Since I was very young, before I had any boyfriend, I ALWAYS wanted to adopt. I love kids and I feel like I can love ny child even if it doesnt specifically come from my body. My husband is very much on board with me. He loves the idea of adoption and we were actually contemplating the idea before we ever decided to TTC. Of course I am sad specially because I received the news today about our fertility issues but I really think this is a sign from God! I think there must be a child out there who really needs us and God is leading us to this child somehow...
Here is the thing, we dont make much money. We cannot afford thousands and thousands of dollars in adoption fees. We have been looking with Bethany adoption agency (we live in Minnesota). It looks like they charge 18K for the adoption and my company pays 10K towards it. Well, I need find some more grants there.
For all of you who have been on this process for longer, do you have an agency you would recommend? How has your experience been and how long have you been waiting for your child? Do you know any types of programs I could be applying for to have grants?
I know it might sound crazy, but we already have a child`s bedroom with toys and all - we painted the room with a beautiful blue, we know what school our child will go to, I know the child care we will use! We are more than ready to be parents no matter how it will be!
Thank you all ladies and cant wait to hear your experiences!!
Re: Intro!!!
Don't forget there is the adoption tax credit. It isn't refundable, but you may be able to recoup some of the fees on the back end that way.
We loved our agency, but it's based in PA even though they now do placements nationwide. Their fees are about double of Bethany's.
We sent in our application in May 2009 and were placed with DD in March 2010, 3 months after our profile went active.
There are a number of fundraising options, I believe some of them are covered in the FAQs. People do everything from yard sales to spaghetti dinners to second jobs to Etsy stores with the proceeds going to their adoption fund. Some borrow on their credit card, get a low interest loan, or use their HELOC. Some take advantage of generous offers of help from family.
There are also agencies that have a fee structure on a sliding scale based on income. Some people choose to do independent adoptions (without the use of an agency) and utilize a law firm to take care of the legal aspect of it. Some people combine their desire to parent an older child with the lower fees associated with foster/adopt.
There are many, many options out there.
I loved our agency but they are specific to our state. For us we were approved at the end of June, our bio started to be shown the first week of July, we were matched the first week of August and DD was born and home with us in early September.
