Recaro carseat

Does anyone have a Recaro convertible carseat? We bought one last weekend but it seems so big in my vehicle. I have an Acadia, so it's not really a small vehicle. I can't see my blind spot bc the carseat sits up so high. I'm thinking of returning for the nexfit but I'm afraid I'll be in the same situation bc it's so bulky?

Also, I'm assuming that buy buy baby will take it back? I guess I should check on that...

Re: Recaro carseat

  • Recaros aren't recommended seats because for their size, they offer insanely little leg room.  Not a safety concern but kids are more likely to be uncomfortable.  The NextFit is a great seat and is the most compact seat front to back.  What seating position are you using?  If the middle is causing you issues, you can safely place your seat outboard.  Middle is statistically safer but the sides are not unsafe and if having the seat in the middle makes driving unsafe overall, it's safer to move it :)

  • We bought it for my Subaru and couldn't fit it in the backseat, so we put it in my husband's Ford F150 in the middle seat. It works great there and I looooove that car seat. We bought a Maxi Cosi for my Subaru. It works great for a smaller vehicle. I still wish I could have fit the Recaro in my car. After using it in my husband's, I really like it.

I didnt realize this! It's on the passenger side in my vehicle. The back seats are bucket so there is no middle seat to use. Maybe the bucket seat is part of the problem? I should have went with my gut and got the nextfit but my husband was dead set on this one. Thanks for the help!

  • @t loves r. My husband has a 3/4 ton Dodge truck. Maybe I'll try it in the middle seat and see how it works. I do love the seat and how easy it is to use!

@Bleachy14‌ thanks. I'm definitely going to give them a call and see what they say about returning.

  • A thought - have you made sure it's reclined properly?  The seat back should be at a 45 degree angle.  If it's too upright that could impact your sight lines.

  • Yep. It's in the rear facing recline position.

  • Just to cover the bases though - the rear facing recline angle isn't the same as the recline of the seat.  You have to make sure you have the seat level while in the car, which is achieved separately from using the seat's recline lever.

  • I love the Recaro and am seriously considering it. I love the features and the fabric and the mesh near the head. It gets so hot in Texas. I have heard that about the leg room but my friend loves hers and she has a tall baby too. I was going to get the Nextfit but don't like the fabric so much. She already sweats enough in the KeyFit 30. Hmmm.....

Gotcha. DH had to use a rolled up towel to get the seat level so I'm assuming it's at the right angle. I'll check this afternoon. Thanks so much for all your help!

  • Definitely at the right angle with the seat back at 45 degrees.

Buy Buy Baby will take the seat back and I asked if we could try the models in our car before buying another one.  They said that was no problem at all.  I'm just trying to figure out why the person we were talking to on Saturday didn't suggest it (or I didn't think of it) when we were discussing the size with her.  Oh well, thanks for all the help!
