s/o - going grey

I'm 33 and the greys are starting to come in full force. For the last few years I've plucked them out as needed, but now they are growing in thicker patches and there is no hiding it. When I pull my hair back without parting it, like I did for the wedding last weekend, you can see one of the patches of hair.

I don't dye my hair because I'm a freak about chemicals and stuff, so I've decided to just let it go and start greying. I actually think it's really majestic-looking and beautiful when older women have long, grey hair. I'm hoping to be the old lady with the thick grey braid or bun

At what age do you think you'll stop covering the grey and just let it go?

I actually JUST started coloring my hair again. I have random grey hair sprinkled throughout, I think if it was streaks of grey I'd let it go because that would look cool. But I'm also not quite done having fun with my hair color. I have natural red highlights and I like to give them a little boost now and then. I think I might stop sometime in my 40s (I'm 31 now), but that depends on whether I get tired of dying it of if I'm still having fun playing with the color. I definitely won't color it forever though. My grey hairs come in a sort of silvery-white color, so I think once I'm mostly/all grey it will actually look really pretty!

I will also probably fight the grey forever. I am only 26 but after DD I lost a lot of hair and then the regrowth was a very Ashy blonde that looked grey to me. My mom went grey really young so it makes sense that I do as well, I suppose. Maybe when I am 70 and I actually feel older and majestic I will let the grey shine through, but definitely not anytime soon!

Never lol grey hair will wash me out and at this point I'm not ready to accept I'm aging lol my Gram is 91 and still dyes her hair and looks fab.... I think I'll be following in her footsteps lol

DH and I are both 33. He has a lot more grey than I do. I highlight my hair sometimes, but I do it because I like the look, not to mask the greys.

I probably won't ever intentionally cover them because let's face facts here... I'm too lazy to keep up the maintenance!

Ditto all of this. Especially since having kids, my hair is going really really gray. I will definitely be keeping it up for a long time!

I've been graying for years - I'm about 25-30% gray at this point (just turned 31). I wish it would just hurry up and finish so I could sport all silver locks. I was hoping I'd be done by now LOL (my maternal grandmother was completely gray by 35 - looks like I'm not so lucky unless the next four years come with a whole lot of rapid gray). I don't have any issue with gray hair, I just hate the salt n pepper look. I still do blue in my bangs pretty often, but I've stopped bothering with the full-head dying (which wasn't to cover grays so much as to change colours from my natural graphite colour).

My DH is about 50% grey (more silvery) and I love it. I think the salt and pepper look is sexy on a man.

I've never dyed my hair and probably never will. My natural color is strawberry blonde, so I'm thinking that when I start going gray it won't be very noticeable for awhile. Maybe if I had dark hair and you could see it more, I'd have a different opinion. I'm also too lazy and cheap to keep up with regular hair coloring. Just not my thing.

I will probably dye my hair forever. Or at least until I'm very old (lord willing). I definitely think men with salt and pepper is sexy. DH has zero greys and he's 36. Anyway, I do think that a full head of grey looks majestic in a women. My aunt is like that. She has long thick hair that's 100% grey and she's beautiful. It's just not the look for me.

I've got some greys. Well, they're like silver-whites, which I think is cool. I have no immediate intentions of dying my hair to cover them. I just hope I'm not salt n pepper by the time I'm 30

This was my level of gray three years ago (to the day apparently LOL the upload date on my facebook is May 7 2011):

I'd say it's probably double or triple that, now, but so much of it is covered in dark blue dye right now that it would be difficult to pick up with my camera phone. I'll take a picture in a few weeks before I put more blue on.

I think I'm mostly excited about the gray because I'll finally be able to do pastels

bleaching my hair to a white takes multiple processing and it leaves it very weak. If it's all gray, all I've got to do is weaken it just enough to get it to hold the dye, instead LOL

My mom is 67 and no sign of gray (although she does color it bc she doesn't like her mousy brown color), so I'm hoping I got those genes. Like kleigh, I've got strawberry blonde (more dark blonde than strawberry anymore), and feel no need to dye. I'm also hoping that that color distracts from the gray when it finally comes.

I started greying at 18ish. My hair is black and while I am only 1% grey, it is patchy and very noticeable. I will mostly color my hair forever.

My hair started greying at 16. No joke. It's hereditary, bc my aunt was totally grey before 30. That's just not for me. I have very dark hair, so a lot of grey is really noticeable. I have no idea what age I might stop. I just assume I'll be that little ol' bitty at the salon getting a wash and set with curlers under the dryer haha.

I'm wishing I took more after my grandmother and great grandmother — Grandma S (dad's mom) is 80 today and isn't completely gray, she still only had threads of gray in her dark hair. G-grandma B(mom's grandma) passed away at 104 in 2004 and SHE wasn't completely gray at 104!!!

I really like your outlook on this. I have a great fondness for candy-colored hair, but I'm not into bleaching... So now you've given me something to look forward to

I started going grey in college. It took many years before I got highlights for the first time. Now I'm a regular. I'm guessing I'm about 25-30% grey. And more concentrated in certain areas, like my temples, especially after having LO. I've started having toner applied, in addition to the highlights, to help hide the grey. I really wish I could embrace the grey more, but I guess I'm still too vain. Plus I'm an older mom and don't want to mistaken for grandma! There has got to be a way to go grey and still be 'cool / trendy / stylish'; I just haven't figured out what that looks like for me.

I have to bleach just to get darker bold colours like magenta and royal blue.

I am VERY excited to get to do pastels for once in my life without over processing.

Same here, @Rynleigh. I have one strip of hair bleached that *was* a deep royal blue, but my hair doesn't take kindly to the over processing
