Avent natural bottle with newborn nipple - fast flow?

I got an Avent natural bottle as a sample in a gift bag so I tried it out with breast milk for my 1-month old. I've tried it twice but milk can pouring out of LO's mouth, waiting the BM as well as soaking my baby's clothing. Am I not putting the nipple in correctly, or screwing the cap on tightly enough, or is the flow from the nipple (it has a "1" on it) just too much? Very frustrated about this, baby has no problem with the Dr. Browns slow flow nipple, so not particular about nipples, but I don't want to use those bottles unless I have to because they are a pain to clean. I'm willing to switch to a different bottle system, heard great things about Comotomo, but wanted to know what went wrong with the Avent, since baby didn't reject it.

  • Advent seemed crazy fast to me. I use Dr Browns and love them even though the cleaning is a bit of a pain.
I hope to create a real siggy but first I need some sleep!

  • They seemed really fast to me too.
  • They are fast. However my daughter likes it as I have a fast letdown and she didn't like dr brown when we tried it
  • I agree. I have the avent pump so i prefer to use the avent bottles however, I agree they are a fast flow! DD is done with the bottle too quickly and i would prefer a bottle closer to breast feeding. I tried tomme tippe slow flow and they were horrible. Is "1" the slowest flow that avent has?

  • I believe the Avent newborn is the slowest flow, it says 1 hole (vs 2 and up for their other nipples) on the website. Good to know I wasn't crazy. I used the Dr. Browns slow flow nipples on the Medela pump bottles but the nipples collapse. Guess I'll try another system...
