Urology Appointment

H had his appointment yesterday.  All his bloodwork was normal.  He has a huge bilateral varicoceles that the Dr said that even if they did the repair he doesn't think it would make much difference.  He said that they can try to extract sperm, but based on his SA's doesn't think they will get anything that can be used.  So it looks like we are going to have to consider donor sperm.  H is really upset and isn't sure he wants to go that route.  Should we decide to do donor sperm they can do IUI so our cost would be less.  So we're still in a holding pattern.

 Hashimoto's with irregular cycles  DH- 37 Severe oligoasthenoteratozoospermia

TTC since May 2012

HSG- all clear

March 2014 - RE appt. 
April 2014- Saline sono all's good, terrible SA results - 8 sperm found all abnormal
May 2014- Fert Urology- Bilateral varicoceles, recommend Donor Sperm
12/2014-  Surprise natural BFP  EDD 7/31/15 Plan:  Starting foster to adoption, natural cycles

    Big hugs to you both.  I'm sure that's a hard road for YH to go down.  Give it some time so you are both comfortable.  I'm so sorry.

    17 retrieved, 12 fertilized, 5dt w/ 2 blasts, 5 frosties
    Betas:  #1-156(9dp5dt), #2-1200(13dp5) #3-6112(17dp5)
    Ultrasound #1 10/6: 1 bean!

    I'm sorry. That sucks. We are already MFI (different diagnosis) but I know my DH would be crushed if he got that news. Take good care of him and take plenty of time to process. Hugs.

    I'm sorry about that tough news. That must be especially difficult for your DH - I'm sorry about the grieving process ahead. I hope that with good communication, you can both come to a next step decision that you are both comfortable with.

    I'm so sorry :(  That must be extremely difficult for your DH.  Give it some time, and I hope you're able to make a decision you're both comfortable with.

    DH: 34  
    Aug 2013 - SA: Counts & Motility = great, Morph = 1%; RE didn't seem too concerned

    Me: 26
    Jan. 2014 - Blood work ordered by obgyn:  Prolactin = high & AMH = low (0.73)
    Feb. 6, 2014 - Repeat blood work ordered by obgyn:  Prolactin = normal & AMH = low (0.9)
    Feb.  20, 2014 - First appointment with RE
    Feb. 24, 2014 - HSG scheduled;  DX:  one tube definitely open & one tube could be blocked
    Mar. 7, 2014 - CD 21 Blood work for Progesterone; DX:  Progesterone level at 5.2; shows I ovulated but was low
    Mar. 28, 2014 - Laparoscopy; DX:  Tubes open.  Found some endometriosis and had that removed.
     
    History:
    Started TTC:  June 2012
    June 2012 - March 2013:  When it Happens/it happens method = BFN
    March 2013:  Started using Fertility Friend
    Cycles 1 - 15 with Fertility Friend = BFN
    Cycle 16 - Benched due to Laparoscopy
    Cycle 17 - Natural Cycle = BFN
    Cycle 18 - Natural Cycle = BFN
    Cycle 19 - Natural Cycle = BFN
     

    Current Cycle:
    Cycle 20 = Natural Cycle

    My cousins husband had no sperm when ejaculating. They said they could cut open the balls and they would have a 30% chance of finding anything good. They cut him open and found some in there that instead of swimming just kinda vibrated.. so anyway when they found some in one ball the cut the other and got more. They were able to use the sperm for IVF. I find that story amazing and encouraging. My husband is having variococele repair tomorrow. 
    Husband: MFI Counts 1-11mil, Mot 32%-50% Morph 2-4%
    Me: slightly underactive thyroid
    Married March 2013 TTC since wedding.. 
    Jan 2014 Non medicated IUI-failed 
    April 2014 Started Clomid cancelled IUI due to a low sample
    May 2014 Variococele repair surgery

    That's a tough diagnosis to get.  Be extra kind to him and to yourself. 

    Also, I suggest checking out Third Party Reproduction.  I suspect you'll "meet" women who are in the same tough spot.

    I'm so sorry about that extremely difficult news.  Is it possible that they can at least try extracting sperm? Maybe you would get lucky, and if not maybe it would ease your husbands mind knowing you at least tried. You both will be in my thoughts.  I wish you the best as you move forward and try to make a decision.  <3
