Napping...

So I just put LO down for her nap in her crib for the first time. I'm going to use it for naps only for a while. But I wanted to get a sense of what others do.

Do you rock your LO when putting them down until they are asleep or put them down still awake? Or does LO nap in a bassinet where you are doing whatever?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Napping...

  • My DS sleeps in his crib for all naps but is still in the PNP in our room at night. When it's nap time, I rock him just until his eyes are heavy but he's not alseep. I then lay him in the crib and walk out. 9 out of 10 times he puts himself to sleep.

We just started doing this as well. I decided to start with the first nap of the day in the crib, since were always home for that.  I've been putting her down asleep, but it usually takes 4 or 4 tries to get her to have a decent nap in there.

Other naps are usually in her bouncer or on me.

Thanks all! I never thought putting her down for a nap would be so complicated. Just when I think I've got it down to an art she wakes up!

Good luck to you all too! And thanks for the comments.
  • Last week we did really well with naps. He'd be awake for an hour and a half then I would swaddle and rock him to sleep. This week he has been wanting to nurse to sleep. Depending on how deep asleep I think he is, I put him in the PNP or the mamaroo. Right now he's in the mamaroo because he was still fluttering his eyes, but he's now snoring. :)

  • Colton's crib is in my room so that is where he sleeps at night and for most naps. He also likes to nap in his pompazon (sp?) chair, and pretty much anywhere. However if I even think of putting him in his swing he screams!
  • my lo naps either on me, or if I'm lucky and he doesn't wake up when I put him down, in the bassinet attachment to the pnp. at night he will only sleep in his swing :/  most of the time he is sound asleep when i try to put him down bc he will cry if not, but for the last few mornings he has let me put him down in the swing when he was still barely awake. my lo is only 3 weeks though.

  • LO sleeps in her bassinet in our room at night. During the day she naps in her crib or on my chest. I should put her in the crib for every nap but I love snuggling too much!
  • LO is 9 weeks and we just began exclusively napping in the crib. I swaddle him and bounce him vertically in my arms while lightly rubbing his back and shush in his ear lightly. This lasts about 5 mins and I lay him down drowsy and sometimes when he's asleep. I have the white noise on for naps. It usually works pretty well if I put him down at the right time. The key for me is if he looks happy that I'm swaddling him. If it's too early or late for his nap, he fights it.

He sleeps in the co sleeper or swing at night.
  • My LO likes being put down awake during the day. He likes to either have a chance to squirm and kick, or maybe just to look around. He gets squirmy and cranky if I hold him for too long. So depending on his mood I put him either in the RnP or on a blanket on the floor after he nurses. He does his thing for a while (or we do something together---often I read to him) and then falls asleep.

If he is fussy and I know it's because he's tired and needs to sleep, I put him in the RnP and rock him until he falls asleep. If he falls asleep in my arms he wakes up when I put him down (or a few minutes later) and I have to do the whole performance over again.

I ALWAYS put him down awake at night. If I put him down asleep he will wake up ENRAGED that I put him down and scream his head off! I think he is freaked out that the last thing he knew we were cuddling and all of a sudden he is down on a hard mattress in a dark room. I've read some babies are like that.

My ds2 was the same way. If
I put him down asleep than I had to hold him until he woke up or he would freak out. Worst sound ever would come from him, it was a scared, mad yelling cry :(
  • Nap? What is this thing you call a nap? We get a long stretch at night and then a short one, but once she's up for the day (between 10 and 11) I don't get more than a few 10-15 minute cat naps. This has been going on for nearly a week now...

He naps in his crib and I follow the same routine use for bed minus the bath. It has been working more often than not. Sometimes he crashes in the Momaroo and I don't bother to move him for naps.
  • During the day he naps in the PNP in the dining room. If he's acting sleepy I put him down and hope for the best, but most of the time he'll fall asleep nursing and I stand up as slowly and smoothly as possible and move him. At night he almost always falls asleep nursing and I take him upstairs to the PNP in the master bedroom.

So far he's spent a grand total of about 30 minutes in the actual crib, most of them while he's wide awake and I'm putting away laundry or cleaning nearby.
