NBR taking things for granted

Growing up and living in practically the same place my whole life i have just gotten used to the things around me and take them for granted. I have always found myself being envious of the things other provinces/states have instead of appreciating all the beautiful things Newfoundland has to offer.

While driving down from my cabin today I was looking at all the ice and icebergs and thinking how horrible it was and how i want summer to be here. Then i thought about how much money people pay to come here and see icebergs and whales. I have grown up on the salt water and have seen these things my whole life so they don't really impress me we much as say seeing the wildlife and mountains in Alberta.

Anyways just wondering what you guys take for granted that is right outside your door that others travel far/pay money to see?

Yes! I've never lived more than 15 minutes away from my childhood home and then in 2012 we moved to Los Angeles. I realized how much I missed the suburbs of Texas. I missed the wide open spaces and houses that sit on at least an acre, living close to my family and my in laws, and the food! I missed our house, even though I was wishing we never bought it. There was no way we could have bought a house in LA.

I almost forgot, I also took for granted parking! Oh how I missed parking lots and oversized parking spaces.

We are back in Texas now and I'm so careful to not complain about things that I used to get fed up with before we left.

  • As much as living in this place sucks it's pretty cool that little league was founded here. The World Series is bitter sweet. It's fun to meet people from around the world and go to the games but the cluster it created is a nightmare!

  • @megsw85 I'm in central Newfoundland about an hour and a half or so away from clarenville. You ever been here?

  • The mountains!
Me too. it is not uncommon to see tourists pulled over on the interstate (or wherever) taking pictures of the mountains. We generally roll our eyes a little, but I can remember in college when I would come home to see the mountains and thinking how amazing they were.

Also how easy and how convenient it is to bike anywhere. We have so many bike trails and huge bike lanes all over our city ....and let's not forget the beer. We have 3 big breweries (Odells, New Belgium and Budweiser) as well as 8 more little breweries in town, so beer is pretty cheep and easy to come by here.
  • I've lived a lot of places and because they've all been different it's actually helped me learn not to take the natural beauty around me for granted. Since I grew up in Buffalo though I 100% took Niagara Falls for granted, and just popping over to another country for the day. When I brought friends home in college they thought both of those things were so cool so I learned to appreciate them.

I wish I could take living by my family for granted :(
