Welcome to the August ‘14 PgAL Check-In!
This is a weekly check-in for women who are due in the month of August (or thereabouts) and have suffered a previous pregnancy loss.  Being pregnant after a loss can produce a mix of emotions.  This check-in is intended to provide support while we make our way through each trimester.
If your EDD has changed, please let me know.  I try to pay attention to the board and get the latest update, but apologies if I missed out and I'm posting outdated info.

    How many weeks/fruit? 27 weeks 1 day/ rutabaga

How are you feeling? I'm not as sore as last week, but I have learned it doesn't take much to get sore! Also, the fatigue has ramped up and I am just exhausted all the time again. Emotionally - great. I can't believe that in three short months, we'll have our little girl. It's so surreal!

Upcoming appointments: 5/20 GD test and all that jazz and MW appt

What's been going on this week? I had my appointment last week. My blood pressure normally runs low (90s/60s) but Fri it was 82/62. The doctor wasn't overly concerned, but did ask to make sure I wasn't dizzy or lightheaded. I'm not, just really tired. She said that low won't hurt the baby and I just have to be careful when I stand up. I told her I was tired, and she said it could just be the pregnancy and taking care of our 2 year old son. At my next appointment, there'll be another blood draw, so they'll make sure I'm not also anemic. I wasn't with DS, but she just wanted to rule it out. The baby was good and had a good strong heartbeat. She kicked the doctor pretty hard!

GTKY: What do you miss most from pre-pregnancy? I miss being able to lie down without getting instant heartburn, which kind of puts a damper on things....like sex.....

  • @mdarmetko  I was able to get my results moments after they pricked my finger, and I am GD-free!  I am relieved.

How many weeks/ what fruit are you: 27w0d, rutabaga
How are you feeling (physically/emotionally):Physically- I'm starting to realize that I can't do everything I used to without potentially being very sore in the evening.  I need to start taking more breaks... Emotionally- I've been working on some stuff regarding feeling stuck, and finally pulled the trigger to make an appointment with a therapist, so hopefully that will help dig me out of the hole I have found myself in.  Part of it it is pregnancy related (knowing that once this kid is here, he's here for.ev.er), but more of it is rediscovering who I am.
Upcoming appointments or milestones: Next appointment isn't for another 3 weeks.  I think I'm in the 3rd trimester now!
What's been going down this past week: I hosted a bridal shower for my sister this weekend, and I am feeling so much less stress now that it is all over with!
GTKY: What do you miss most from pre-pregnancy? Hot tubs.  I really just want to go soak.

  • How many weeks/ what fruit are you: 26w5d

How are you feeling (physically/emotionally): Feeling good emotionally. Physically I'm starting to get worn down, the round ligament pain in my right leg is really annoying and making it hard to sleep.

Upcoming appointments or milestones: Glucose test at 28wks. H has been feeling her kick up a storm! Now I just want him to be able to see how she kicks my tummy (she can actually move it!).

What's been going down this past week: Getting ready for our closing on the 19th! Derby was on Sat (we live in Louisville) so we took advantage of everyone either having fled the city or being at Churchill for the race to get some serious shopping done at Lowe's. This weekend was gorgeous :D We just had a lazy weekend, dreaming of what it will be like when we finally have outdoor space.

GTKY: What do you miss most from pre-pregnancy? BOOZE. Derby was this past weekend and I wanted a real mint julep SO bad.

How are you feeling (physically/emotionally): Discomfort is definitely setting in, as is some decreased energy. I really needed to clean the house this weekend, and my body just wouldn't cooperate. I also recently started getting really tight when I'm walking -- I think it's probably round ligament pain. I also was woken suddenly last night to a stabbing pain in my right ribcage, not sure what that one was all about, but it pretty much took my breath away!

Upcoming appointments or milestones: Routine and GD 5/14

What's been going down this past week: Not much, really. H went hunting over the weekend, so it was just DS and me. Since I've been feeling uncomfortable and a litte more run down, I really didn't get much of anything accomplished (baby related or otherwise!) last week. The good news was that the fetal echo went very well. Baby's heart looks healthy, and now they'll just monitor her growth starting at 32 weeks.

GTKY: What do you miss most from pre-pregnancy? My social life.

@mdarmetko: It went very well.  My previa has resolved itself and I am off pelvic rest but my OB still wants to do a repeat CS.  I haven't heard results of my glucose test yet.  I'm assuming no news, is good news.

How many weeks/ what fruit are you: 26 weeks, Lettuce
How are you feeling (physically/emotionally): Physically: Swollen. Had to take of my wedding ring. After a long day I looked in the mirror and was shocked to see how huge my ankles & feet were.  I didn't have too much swelling with my son, and it isnt even hot yet :(
Upcoming appointments or milestones: Next apt at 28 weeks.
What's been going down this past week: Pretty uneventful week.  Hubby has been working hard to get house painted & fixed up before baby arrives.
GTKY: What do you miss most from pre-pregnancy? ALCOHOL!  Today is cinco de mayo, and I so want a margarita.  Plus friends are planning a cabrewing camping trip for the summer.  I always forget home much drinking was linked with my social life.

  • @caybeh - Glad this week is feeling better, albiet tired.
@KaleMonster - Ha, okay.  Glad you are GD free. For us FTM, it can be very overwhelming to digest the big change.  I often feel guilty that when I  think of this addition to our family in terms of me me me.  I hope the therapy helps
@kountingsheep - Congrats on passing v-day!  You are something incredible for holding out on sex for this long.  Not sure how I'd do that!
    @lingchow8655 - Welcome to the 3rd tri!  And… Oh yeah, shaving… that still exists…
@MamaTugboat - I love seeing the movement too!  Sometimes when I'm reading and the book is resting on my tummy, she pushes it out of the way.  It's pretty amazing.
@MeganEMcG5 - Ouch!  That sounds like it hurts.  I woke up with a wicked charlie horse the other night.  Not pleasant!
@MrsDeo - Congrats on passing v-day!  Sorry the aches and pains are starting to rear their ugly heads though.
@mv9310 - Sounds like you're going to have a busy week.  Happy packing!
@Russiandea12 - So glad you're off pelvic rest.  It must have been annoying!  Just thinking about a Cinco de Mayo margarita is giving me heartburn.

Miss the most- today I'm missing a margarita!!!
  • How many weeks/ what fruit are you: 24 weeks
How are you feeling (physically/emotionally): Feeling good right now - same old backaches but they are manageable. Our neighbor just had a baby boy so that made me feel a little sad (but happy for them of course).
Upcoming appointments or milestones: Glucose test on Friday, then MFM next Friday. My husband and I are counting down to when we'll have only double digits until baby is due - May 15!
What's been going down this past week: Nothing new
GTKY: What do you miss most from pre-pregnancy? With 2 back to back pregnancies I feel like I've been pregnant for a loooong time. I miss feeling like I look cute in my clothes and feeling in shape! And a few glasses of wine each week, especially Friday night!

first son stillborn 7/20/13 at 39 weeks due to Acute Fatty Liver of Pregnancy
It's a girl! Baby Anna was born August 3, 2014!

  • @mdarmetko‌ we've done it a couple times, probably once about every 3 weeks, so it's not completely no sex, but still, a lot less than we normally do and what I want right now.

  • @bkroxfan003 - I totally understand feeling pregnant forever.  My first BFP was a year ago almost to date.  I had one AF in between the 1st and 2nd, and then none between the 2nd and this one.  It'll be nice to feel "normal" again.
@Lena76 - How is DS taking to the move?
@megknyc - Sorry you were in a slump.  Are the twins okay though?
@mmsweeney1 - It's understandable that you'd feel a little sad.  Thankfully, you'll have your little girl soon too.
@MorganElise511 - I'm glad your puppy is feeling better.  As they say, shit happens.  I'm glad she has you guys to take care her.
@muffin87 - It's pretty humbling that we can't go go go like we use to and definitely something I need to get use to.
@Pink021 - Why is Mother's Day something you are dreading?
@Third&goal - Not only do the fruits/veggies vary so much, but the actual estimate measures are so different.  What.Ev.Er.

How are you feeling (physically/emotionally): Pretty good on both accounts.  I was travelling for work last week, so being out of my element is tiring.  Having to skip yoga a few time has resulted in some hip/sciatic pain.  Hopefully yoga tomorrow will rectify that.
Upcoming appointments or milestones: Nothing for 2 weeks
What's been going down this past week: Like I said, I was travelling for work last week in NY.  I have one more trip planned to NY before I will stop going.  Next visit will be bitter sweet because that's when I'm having my baby shower there (all of my friends are in NY -- moved a year ago), but it will be the last time I see my friends for a really long time.
GTKY: What do you miss most from pre-pregnancy? Running and working out for real.  Not being able to really push myself sucks sometimes.

I am trying so hard to keep my cool and not yell. Yelling just makes it worse so patience is my goal right now.

How are you feeling (physically/emotionally): Way more achy this week: my back hurts almost all the time, and my hips have been super sore when I'm sleeping and when I wake up. Emotionally, I'm feeling pretty good!
Upcoming appointments or milestones: Moved my appointment with the old doc to Thursday so I don't have to miss work. Still waiting on hearing back from the new doc.
What's been going down this past week: My best friend was visiting this weekend from Michigan. It was so awesome to see her! We had a great time, and it was so sad to drop her off at the airport yesterday. My parents will be visiting this weekend, so we're staying busy!
GTKY: What do you miss most from pre-pregnancy? Beer. DH and I are total beer snobs, and we still go to beer bars/breweries all the time, and its hard to not be able to enjoy the new beers myself. And I miss deli meat and being able to order normal stuff for lunch.

@Pink021 - Why is Mother's Day something you are dreading?

It sucks to have the in your face reminder that I would have had a baby and been considered a Mother by all standards last year...

Also, there are people who will want to say Happy Mother's Day now because I am visibly pregnant, while the sentiment is nice, it sucks because I have a feeling it will be some of the same people who didn't say anything last year, even though as was as much a mother than as I am now. (people who knew about our losses).
So it just a crappy reminder of our loss and that although we've come this far, I still don't have a baby in my arms just yet.
ugh, I can't seem to get words out tonight, hopefully that makes sense.

ETA: Not to say I am ungrateful for this baby in anyway and I hope things continue to go well and I'll be holding a baby soon, but it's just a hard area for me.

What happens when you try to let her pick out her own clothes?  Does she end up looking like a clown?
I've been letting her pick out her clothes for the most part (ie, I lay out options) and she does but then still has a full meltdown when we go to put them on.  If I let her run around and be a nut ball for 5-10 minutes and talk slowly to her eventually she'll slow down and eventually allow me to dress her but getting dressed is a long process.  Usually I just have to get her total buy in on the shirt or pants before putting them on.  Its tough to get buy in from a 2 year old, lol.
This is us too.  I think she may have some sensory sensitivities.  She will say she likes something and then if a tag is bothering her or its not long enough she will try to rip it off her asap.  This weekend I went through her closet and got rid of stuff (good stuff) that she just won't wear.  No sense in keeping it around.  We purchased some new stuff that is soft and comfortable for her (cotton) so that has been helping.  We also had to explain the difference in "Play Clothes" versus "School Clothes" versus "Party Clothes".  She just wanted to wear a christmas dress every day.  Now at least she kinda understands she has to wear school clothes to school but can wear her party clothes when she gets home (literally 2 seconds into the door and she's changing).

    Upcoming appointments or milestones:
    Regular appt 5/29, bloodwork/GD test.

What's been going down this past week:
We have a few home projects going on now which are in full swing. We are having one of our bathrooms remodeled and getting the nursery ready. I am in full-on nesting mode!

GTKY: What do you miss most from pre-pregnancy?
I had a MMC 2 months before I got pregnant so I, like some of the PP, feel like I have been pregnant for the last year! I miss a glass of wine, or as the weather is (finally) getting nicer, sangria!

What's been going down this past week: dealing with a massive increase in temper tantrums from my 2.5 year old. Clothing changes are a freaking nightmare and I pretty much have to wrestler her into clothes while she screams. This baby is going to be soothed by the familiar sounds of tantrum sobbing/screaming. I am trying so hard to keep my cool and not yell. Yelling just makes it worse so patience is my goal right now.
I know what you mean about getting a two year old dressed!  All of a sudden she cares what she wears and its a huge battle!

I think we have a few sensory issues also that are just recently surfacing.  She constantly complains something is too tight when its not.  She gets really upset with how her clothes feel on occasion.  I'm feeling overwhelmed by the thought that there's potentially something going on thats causing her to feel that way vs just being a typical 2 year old fighting over getting dressed.  I'm trying to not borrow trouble but I guess it if continues I may talk to her doctor about it at her 3 year appt.
I'm not "too" worried about it yet because when she wants to wear things she will wear them.  Also sometimes she acts the same way (ripping the clothing off) when its her favorite dress but she all of a sudden wants to change (say into her swim suit for the pool).  Right now it just means more shopping to just buy the stuff she wants to wear (tutu dresses and soft cotton tops and shorts).

Pregnancy #3 after two prior losses in 2013

    EDD 8/18

  • @babypants11 - I'm so sorry to hear about your grandmother.  My condolences to you and your family.
@borstad - My baby is a jokester too, stopping the movement as soon as I pull my H hand on my belly.  What a jerk ;)
@arusso07 - Yes, I cannot wait to have a real run again.
@Elbug - Hiccups on your vag must feel weird haha.  From what I recall, you didn't gain very much in the beginning of this pregnancy, so perhaps you're just playing catch-up?  That or maybe your clothes are heavier :P
@esmith10 - Glad you had such a great time with your best friend.  As far as the sleeping aches, are you using any pregnancy pillows?
@ginny5683 - Ha, okay no worries.  We'll try again next week ;)
@mhiester314 - Oh wow, I've had a whole 'I hate the internet/media' thing going on this week.  It seems like such a waste of time right?!
@Ptarma - Yes, being more clumsy is starting to pick up for me too.  Bending down sucks nowadays.
@tahitiansun - Yeah! Getting stuff done!  Do it now before you get too tired too fast!
