OMG...4 Follies (please post your opinion)

I went to the RE today and found out that I have 4 follies about the same size (14, 15,15,16mm). None of these are mature yet, but he said that it could happen and that he wanted to see me back Monday or Tuesday. The problem is I can't go Monday or Tuesday so I have an ultrasound scheduled for Wednesday but he says they may have already ovulated by then and to abstain from sex till he sees me on Wednesday morning because if they all mature and release we could possibly get quads. What would ya'll do??? DH and I talked about it today (after BDing...oops) and we think we want to just risk it. We've had very well timed sex in the past and no pregnancy so this is our best chance ever. We don't want quads but this is our last cycle before a long break of undetermined length. The RE said that if all 4 were still there Wednesday and hadn't ovulated we could either cancel the cycle or reduce the number of follicles which DH and I have already decided we will reduce the number of follicles if I haven't ovulated on Wednesday but what about before then. I usually am very cautious and take Dr.'s advice but I really want a baby and am perfectly OK with twins. I guess I just want other TTTC girls opinions on just BDing away until we see the RE Wednesday and risking it with me having 4 follicles.

We took the conservative approach for 3 cycles with 1-2 follies, and had no success. It's very normal to do IUI with 2-4 follies, I had 4 last cycle...so I'd do TI for sure...it looks like we have similar dx, but maybe since you do not have as many cycles under your belt he is being conservative? On another note how does one reduce follies, I have never heard of that as an option, I don't think it's possible? I have heard or canceling cycles, and I've heard of selective reduction (ie if you actually get pregnant with quads reducing the number of babies) but never reducing follies. Make sure you completely understand before making any definite decisions. Good luck! Edited for grammar. .

I was in the same situation a week ago.. only I had 5 that were >17. We went for TI but ONLY bc we are MFI. If your DH has a normal SA, then I wouldn't risk it. Honestly up until yesterday, I was a worried mess thinking I made the wrong decision & our odds are very low. I def. agree that if you move forward you need to be open to selective reduction, look it up if you haven't already.

Edit: I say I was worried we made the wrong decision until yesterday, bc now I'm sure I'm just out lol.

This is such a personal decision. I agree with researching selective reduction, just in case. If you are ok with that, then I would go ahead with TI. I would also research pregnancy with multiples because there are many risk factors there as well.

For my last IUI, I had more follicles than you have which were very very close in size. I'm actually pretty embarrassed that I went ahead with the IUI but I felt desperate. You can see in my siggy that it didn't work... and I had very high hopes. I'm just telling you 'cause I want you to be prepared for either outcome.

It is a difficult decision but if it were me I would still do TI. I've had 3 mature follies on a couple cycles of IUI with no success so that's my reasoning, but of course I don't know your history and I can't see it right now cuz I'm mobile.

I would move forward. I did an IUI cycle with 4 and no luck. It is a very personal decision, but every follie also ups your odds of getting at least one.

Follicle reduction according to my RE is where they go in with a needle under local anesthesia and aspirate some of the eggs out to save the cycle.
@snedge it is a medicated cycle with 7.5 mg of Femara but this is a really long continuation of the last cycle where I didn't respond. We were planning in being in the 2ww at this point but my ovaries had different plans. Usually I'm fine with taking off work or coming in late for appointments but that isn't possible this week for multiple reasons. DH and I are going to sit down and talk at length about what decision to make. I thank all of you for your honest opinions they have been very helpful.

This cycle I had 5 mature and a couple just below mature when I triggered but I'm 39 with normal SA so it's no big deal for us. I don't think it worked for us. If it were me I wouldn't think twice but your situation is obviously different.

I will find out tomorrow how many follies I have and at this point I feel like I would TI with anything! I had no idea follicle reduction existed. Good luck and let us know your decision!

@ReneeJ2011‌ - just wondered what you ever decided. I have 4 mature about 10 under 15. We are going for it & will have IUI the next two days. Our doctor offered follicle reduction as we'll but I was toga afraid he might take "the one" that was meant to be. Let us know how it's going for you!

I would probably go for it, but that's based on my own experience with having two IUIs with two follicles that did not result in any pregnancy, let alone a twin pregnancy. There is no guarantee of success even with four follicles. That being said, I completely agree with the posters who suggested you think through how you would feel about multiples and selective reduction before proceeding further. There's nothing wrong with waiting for a better cycle if you don't think you can handle three or four babies.
