4 to 6 month weight gain question

Hi ladies!

DS had his 6 month wellness visit yesterday. His weight gain from 4-6 months was a lot slower than 0-4 months. Just wanted your opinions to see if this sounds like a normal trend for a EBF baby, or if my supply seems low.

At birth he weighed 8 pounds 3 ounces, 19 3/4 inches. At 4 month appointment he weighed 16 pounds, 15 ounces- 86th percentile for weight and 43rd percentile for height. Then yesterday at 6 months he weighed 17 pounds, 12 ounces (54th percentile) and 26.5 inches long (51st percentile). My doctor said all was well and that it is better that his weight has evened out some and height and weight are in the same range now.

But of course I kinda paniced like maybe my supply is low? Does this gain sound ok? DS is EBF. Only a bottle occasionally when I'm not with him. From 4-6 months he had purées one time a day, usually about an hour after his first morning feed.

He never cries or acts like he's still hungry after he eats. He sleeps through the night. I think maybe I'm just being paranoid.

Thanks in advance for your input!

**Edited to change his 4 month weight. I forgot to put the ounces.

Re: 4 to 6 month weight gain question

  • He is around the 50th percentile for weight and the doctor isn't concerned, so I wouldn't be concerned.

  • Thanks Ladies! That's reassuring. It's not that I don't listen to my doctor- but he is in his 60s and a little old school and I dont think he's super knowledgeable about breastfeeding. I made his 9 month appointment with a different doctor in the practice. She's a mom and younger so she might be a better fit for these younger years.

Based off the Kellymom growth chart I was concerned. He only gained on average 1.4 ounces per week from 4-6 months, instead of the recommended 4-5 per week. So that's why I was worried.

    Thanks y'all!
