Cervical check and gush of blood after

Today I had my 37 week cervical ck. last weeks went fine no spotting or pain afterward just pressure and discomfort durning.

I was checked no progress. 0 dilation and remain 50 effaced.

This week the check hurt and 20 minutes after I left doc I had a huge gush of blood. I was told to anticipate some spotting and some blood but this soaked through my pants I had to leave work to change. Called doc he said that as long as it slows down not to worry.

Anyone else experience this? I'm sore now!

Re: Cervical check and gush of blood after

  • I bled a lot after my first cervical check last week, but it happened right away and my OB stopped the bleeding right there. I had no additional bleeding or spotting. My check did not hurt, and I was not sore later. Did you tell your Dr. you were still experiencing discomfort? Has the bleeding stopped or at least slowed down?

If you're not sure, I'd suggest calling your OB or L&D. My OB sent me right over to L&D for an NST as a precaution, even knowing she got the bleeding to stop and knowing the bleeding was NOT from inside the cervix.

  • Yes, I had this with my first (and only) check. I passed two large clots at the doctors office and had a large gush of blood on my way back to work. The doctor said it was fine and I just had a sensitive cervix. I spotted for two days after that as well. My water broke two weeks after that, but I don't think it had anything to do with the cervical check.

Yup I had a lot of blood right away (went through my pants and I had to run out and get pads). It slowed down quickly and turned to brown the next morning. I didn't have any bleeding at my next cervical check.
  • Thanks everyone. Bleeding has stopped just minor spotting. Still very sore.

I was wondering if this is from inside cervix or if I passed Mucus plug. I didn't notice. Oh well just happy it stopped. I was so embarrassed at work had to run out.

I had quite a bit of bleeding and a few hours of cramping with #1 after an overly aggressive triage nurse checked me and tried to manually take me from a 0 to a 1 so she could strip my membranes the next time I went in (yes, it was as painful as it sounds, and no, it didn't work). I was told it was normal and only to call back if it got worse or the cramping turned into timeable contractions.

I had my 37 week check today too! I also had bad cramping and spotting after. I was in L&D with contractions at 35 weeks and they did a cervical check there. I bled for 5 days afterwards and passed a MASSIVE black thick clot. I had called more than once and always told not to worry. You should always call if you have concerns but try not to stress.

This makes me not want to have my cervix checked. I am just now 37 weeks, and I have not noticed any changes in weeks, so my ob said it wasn't necessary at this point. But seriously, this thread scares me. Anyone else? (FTM here, and I'm a baby)

I am not being checked until I am I labor in triage-- this is the standard practice in my MW office, plus I don't want the added stress.
  • I was checked today 39w3d for the first time. My MW also did a membrane sweep. I felt a little discomfort during and had a decent amount of bloody mucus and then a little tapered spotting after. I wasn't concerned due to the old blood but I was told if I have bright blood to go to L&D.
  • I have had tons of preterm contractions and my cervix has been checked at least 6 times or more my both my doc and nurses in labor and delivery. I am now 37.5 weeks. I have never had any bleeding afterwards...just wanted to reassure those of you who are nervous that you may not have bleeding at all, even though I know it can be normal to have some spotting afterwards.

Cervical checks aren't that bad. Honestly. Most of us had worse experiences with clumsy boyfriends in college.
