XP: Breastfeeding to Bottle

Hi! I'm new here. I posted this on my BMB, but thought you ladies might have some help/advice. TIA!

So, LO has only had 2 bottles in his 4.5 months. One was at a week old and one was at 2 months. Last week DH took him to MILs birthday and he refused to eat. He pushed the bottle away and didn't eat for 5 hours, when he got home and nursed. When we did the 2 bottles before, he took them without a problem, so we weren't really practicing in between. I want him to take a bottle for times when we go out or DH/grandparents want to take him. We've tried Dr. Browns, Avent, Avent Natural and Medela since last week with no success. Also, he has a sensitive gag reflex and the nipples seem to be too long. Any advice?

Re: XP: Breastfeeding to Bottle

  • I tried every type of pacifier possible and NY son rejected them all. I decided I wouldn't do the same with bottles. We just kept offering the standard Medela and he eventually accepted it.

There is at least one brand of sippee cup designed for 4 months. You can try that or a small open cup, which is what I've had most success with.

  • if you want baby to take a bottle, you have to be consistent with it, not just offering one every few months.

Yea! I'm afraid I've lost my chance. FTM fail. I will try a sippy. Thanks!

We had the same issue and my DD has no problem now with the Tommee Tippie bottles. They nipple and bottle head are shaped just like your breast. They also have a selection for babies with gas and sensitive tummies, it has an added vent like Dr. Brown's. GL
