VBAC

I think I'm going to like my new doctor

Just wanted to share what was, to me, an amusing moment at my last OB appointment. I recently moved to a new area and just had my first appointment with the doctor at my new practice. I had originally gone to another OB but they refused to consider VBAC so I switched to my current practice. When the doc asked why I switched I said it was because, even though I'm still not 100% decided that I want a VBAC, I want the option. Her response? "Oh, good, great, yeah, we really push" - pauses - realizes what she just said - I suggest "encourage?" - and she says "yeah, encourage VBAC". It didn't really strike me until later but it was pretty funny. And after reading some of the posts here I'm feeling really fortunate that I not only have the option for a VBAC but have a doctor who really seems on board with it. I only wish everyone else who wanted one could have such an experience. Best of luck to everyone here :)

ETA: Oops! I just realized this post is about a month old, but I figure my response still applies, so... :)

I'm glad you like your new doctor! I had a similar experience. My DH and I moved to a new area when I was about 30 weeks pregnant. I made an appointment with an OB at 31 weeks and it was just awful. VBAC wasn't completely restricted, but I got the feeling that I was a "problem" to her. I immediately changed to a new OB group at 33 weeks and the difference was night and day. I felt like they were actually supporting my VBAC, not just "allowing" it. I had to drive 1.5 hours to and from each appointment, but it was worth every single minute. Finding the right doctor is so incredibly important (IMO). I had my (successful!) VBAC with them about a week ago and if it weren't for the fact that we are done having children I would go back to that practice in a heartbeat despite the distance. Best of luck to you!

Bluebird2318 - no problem on it being old; thanks for commenting :) My first OB here told me that I absolutely could not VBAC so I decided to find a new doc. It was such a pleasant surprise to have her be so encouraging after the first doctor was so negative. I'm so glad to hear that you had a great experience - it makes me feel even more encouraged to try for the VBAC! Thanks again
