Do I have the right flange size..?

My Ameda breast pump came with the standard 25 mm flange. When in use, my nipple moves freely inside the tunnel without rubbing or too much space between the nipple and the tunnel. However, my areola rubs against the cone of the flange (NOT the tunnel). Does this mean that the flange is the right size or too large? Thanks in advance.

Re: Do I have the right flange size..?

  • that sounds right- it's okay if a little bit of your areola is pulled in with each suction. that was how it always looked when i pumped. as long as you're getting a reasonable amount of milk when pumping, and your nipples aren't sore, i'd say you're fine.

  • My areola isn't being pulled into the tube with my nipple, it just ribs on the plastic piece. It doesn't really hurt, maybe a little uncomfortable. I may try a smaller size and see if there is any significant difference. Thanks for the help!
