Baby Names

Birdie

I Love Birdie. My husband doesn't. Please give me any names you can think of that we could use a Birdie as a NN. The catch is I'm not a typical name person so something like Elizabeth is definitely out. I like unusual but not crazy names. For example, Tallulah and Maisie I would consider unusual. Apple Jack Frosted Cake is crazy lol.

Re: Birdie

  • Bridget?

    Bernadette?

  • I did not know Birdie was a NN for Elizabeth.  Interesting.  I also think it is a cute NN for Bernadette.  Wasn''t Sandra Bullock's character named Birdie in Hope Floats?

  • I knew a woman with that name but it was spelled "Bertie" and was short for Roberta.

  • What about using it as a middle name? Or you can always call her Birdie as a nickname even if it's not one of her names. I think it's cute - check out bleubird blog - it's her daughters middle name
  • I agree its traditionally Elizabeth, but any B name would work Id guess?

I like the nickname Birdie though.  I have a co worker that calls her 16 yr old daughter Birdie, but that was because she always ate small meals like a bird.

Im a fan of the last poster's idea of Beatrice.  :-)

  • Bertha is always a possibility. It's kind of a hideous one, but it would work. :D

  • I almost think you could call her Birdie regardless of her name. This post made me think of my BFF Erin who I call Birdsey. But, as a mother of a Bridget, I highly recommend that name, too.

It was! I don't know what her 'real' name was in the movie though.

    I love that movie.

  • I think her and her daughter shared the name Bernice and Sandra went by Birdie.

I would like to use the name Bernadette because it is very similar to my maiden name with the nn Birdie. DH hates Bernadette, though :(

I love it so much I could probably be convinced to use it as the formal name :S

  • My friends DD is NN Birdie....her real name has nothing to do with her given name.  In other words, if you want to NN your child Birdie go ahead and do it regardless of her given name.  That being said, I think it's a bit much to NN a baby before it's born....NN usually grow out of personality, or an event....ex I grew up with a Scooter.  His given name was Francis.  When he was 4 there was an episode with some Scooter pies so from that day forward he was Scooter....he's in his 40s now and he's still Scooter.  My nephew couldn't say his name and called himself Juju....he's 16 and is still Juju

I love the nn Birdie. I too tried to think of a name that it would "go" with. But in the end I've decided that no matter what we name her (if its a her) I will call her Birdie.
Names we strongly considered to make it work...Bridget and Beatrice.
