2nd Trimester

For REAL, how often do you pee? I never thought it was actually this bad during pregnancy!

I am a first-time mom and am continually amazed at how many cliche symptoms are not only very real during pregnancy but also INTENSE--more so than watching others be pregnant let on.

For example, frequent urination.  Since about 6-8 weeks into this pregnancy I have basically been living in the bathroom.  I've been up 3-4 times per night since that point.  I'm now 19 weeks and it seems to only be getting more intense.  Sometimes I pee, then 3 minutes later, I realize I should have just stayed in the bathroom and peed more.  You ladies know the drill.

Any one else shocked by the frequency?  Have any special hints or strategies to make it better or more bearable?

  • For me, it varies. Last night I slept deeply for 10 hrs and didn't get up to pee once. The night before, I was up  4-5 times. Some times at work I only pee twice all day, sometimes I'm in the bathroom 5 times in an hour and a half. Obviously it makes a difference how hydrated I am, but also the baby's position. When I stand up it shifts everything so the head is on the bladder and I have to pee OMGNOW.

  • I pee all day. And I drink insane amounts of water which doesn't help. I can't make the drive to work most days without having to stop. Granted its at least an hr commute. But still. Sometimes I think baby positions herself on my bladder and I pee and can't empty my bladder so I'm back in the bathroom in 2 minutes.

  • I lean forward too, to make sure it's all out.. I am a peeing machine too.. I'm 11w4d with fraternal twins.. We find out the genders may 29th
  • First time pregnancy here and what you are saying is so true. If I'm out of the house it's like the international tour of restrooms. At the house I feel like I'm constantly having to get up to pee after I've just peed. It's never ending. I'll ale the constant urge to pee over the all day morning sickness I had earlier on though lol
  • Anyone as feel like they are leaking too?! All of us that pee and can't empty the bladder all the way.

  • I look forward to the days when I can sleep through the night without having to get up every two hours to go to the bathroom!

To the poster who mentioned leaking--yes!  I sometimes feel like I'm just a trickling faucet--not necessarily that anything is coming out without command but that there's constantly liquid that needs to get OUT.  I work from home so honestly...sometimes I just humor myself and pee every 10 minutes or so when it's bad.
  • Some nights are worse than others and it doesn't seem to have anything to do with how much water I drink or when. I can cut off my liquids at 6:00 PM or continue drinking through the night and I still get up the same amount of times. I have no issues with getting back to sleep so it doesn't really bother me.

I have to say I dislike when the kid head-butts my bladder. That hurts and creates false urgency.

    This exactly!

  • I drink a lot of water during the day so it's pretty frequent. That being said, I have learned that sometimes when I feel like I have to, if I get up and shift him around a bit, I won't have that feeling anymore...at least for a while.

Overnight is STILL obscene for the amount of times I get up. On a good night it's 3. On a bad one it's 6-7. Fortunately, those bad nights don't happen very often.

  • I will pee before I leave the house, be running errands for 30 minutes, and DESPERATELY need to go again. I could write a travel guide for public restrooms in my state.

  • Depends on the night. In the 1st trimester I was up every 3 hours or so at night. Lately I have been able to make it 8ish hours but I'm really full at that point. Last pregnancy I remember hitting the 3rd tri (twins last time) and I was up every 1-2 hours. It really prepares you for when the baby comes.

Also, like the other ladies have said, lean forward when you think you are done, you will be surprised how much more you get out.
