Following up on a couple of conversations here, I'd love to wean LO of the paci (uses it to sleep only) and I'd start it tomorrow if it wasn't for a bunch of long-distance flights coming up over the next few months. Do you think it would be cruel to wean her off it and reintroduce it just for the plane? Or is it possible to survive a 15+ hour flight without one of these things? I worry about the jet lag as well... sleeping in new places without it, etc.... but then I'm also scared for her teeth. If I wait until the flying is all over it will be 3 months down the line.
Would also love to hear any genius strategies that have worked for you, if you've already got rid of the sucker. I don't think the binky fairy would work for us... I can see her wagging a finger and saying "bring back! mine!" I'm leaning towards poking a hole in the end and making her decide they don't work, for lack of something more imaginative.
Re: paci strategies... and planes
Also, using a pacifier won't mess with her teeth until she starts getting permanent ones. So that's something you don't need to worry about - you've got plenty of time to wean.
Unfortunately, I have no advice since Tumaini rejected her paci when she was very young. However, I'm curious to where you're going! We love to travel, and are always on the look-out for destinations we might not have considered with our kids.
Barefoot84 - we'll be going to the Middle East first and then Jamaica later in the summer. When she was 18/19 months, we did Sri Lanka, Cambodia, and Malaysia. Lovely, all of them, but Angkor Wat in Cambodia was out of this world spectacular. I'd have to rate it over a bunch of other amazing places, including Machu Picchu. Lots of baby carrying involved though - no strollers.
edit: oh, so you just have to type out the @ followed by a name eh. Thought there was a shortcut!
