Pregnant after a Loss

MS Pep Talk

I know there are probably a million threads on this already, but my MS is out of control.  I spent all day in bed yesterday and barely made it to work today.  I just feel awful constantly.

Can I get some words of wisdom or a pep talk to remind me that this gets easier?

Love it!  MH says that the baby is just reminding me "hey, I'm in here."

The ginger ale and saltines are no longer helping but I will look into Zofran at my next RE appointment. :)

I remember the horrible MS from my first twin pregnancy.  I got to the point where saltines and ginger ale didn't help anymore.  Get mints, lots and lots of sugar free mints.  That really helped me.  Also, seaband bracelets.  They really did help me and I wore them for many, many weeks.

It does get easier, that much I can promise you!!

Is there any sort of drink that is appealing to you? I have not had MS to the extent you are, but I keep feeling dehydrated and nauseous as a result. My first couple of weeks, all that helped me was coconut water. Ever since it makes be gag just thinking of it. Then it was lemonade-I find sour things help, lemonade with fresh raspberries or even limeade. This week it seems to be plain seltzer, but I have to let it sit a few minutes and de-fizz a bit.

My point being...I wonder if you can stay hydrated better, if the MS will lighten up? There are times I don't even realize I am thirsty, nothing sounds good, but if I start drinking, I feel better.

Hope you start feeling better and good luck!!

I'm just lame in general - I get motion sick on planes and boats (and now in cars too if I'm not the driver), and birth control used to make me feel nauseous.  My HcG and estrodial rose really rapidly this time around and I think that's predominately what's driving it.

But, you're right .... I am having a hard time staying hydrated. I've been drinking watered down lemonade since yesterday since ginger ale isn't helping and the taste of water alone is making me feel worse.

  • I am sorry you feel so awful... I was horribly nauseous until 12 weeks and honestly the only thing I could stomach was toast. I literally ate 5-6 pieces of toast a day. I agree with pp in that you have to stay hydrated or it'll get worse. And I also agree with lemon and seltzer water. The fizzies helped my stomach and lemon just adds something that helps my mouth not to feel so "blah". I know real ginger is a miracle cute if you can stomach it. I like if but I know it's pretty strong. Hope that helps!!

  • Thanks guys.  I will keep repeating the mantra, "this is only temporary" to keep myself sane.

@CaitNMatt - this might sound weird, but the other night I had MH cut fresh ginger into chicken broth and boiled it. He made me soup from that broth.  It really calmed things down.  I may try that again tonight.

  • @ToriGirl2014‌ it's not weird at all!! I saw daphne oz on The Chew make something similar! I make a lemon ginger broth just by simmering the fresh ginger and whole cut lemons in a pot with water. I drink it when I'm sick or nauseous.

I am in the same boat but i feel reassured by it. I got Seabands this weekend and it's helped a ton. And I've been drinking lots of sprite with a ton of ice and lime slushes from sonic.

I have found that sea bands, frozen ice pack on my neck, lemonade or watered down lemonade to get your water in is helpful. Ginger-ale too. Also especially earlier on if I didn't keep something in my stomach every two hours I would start to feel awful so I always packed salty snacks like pretzels or crackers. I know it's not the healthiest but salt and vinegar chips and sour heads help too. Also, cinnamon gum. I haven't gone the medicine route but Unisom and B6 is supposed to help too.

Also when I feel gaggy I put on lavender lotion on my hands and smell it and it helps make me forget about what I was gagging about. Scented bath washes like lavender help in the shower too.
  • I had trouble drinking much, but I ate a ton of watermelon and honeydew. Sweet, watery fruits were my best friend. Popsicles helped sometimes, but only the real fruit kind. DH made me hot water with lemon and fresh ginger which helped some at night. Club crackers and cheese or quesadillas were good for some reason.

Non food related things: lots of sleep/rest. Sea bands helped. Zofran was a life saver and kept me from throwing up all day.
