Teething Already?

My LO is not quite 3.5 months and shows what I think are signs of teething...not eating near as much as usual, lots of drooling, shoving almost her whole hand in her mouth chewing vigorously, and major increase in crying! I finally broke down and gave her Tylenol after trying gum massage and a cold washcloth which gave short term minimal relief. After it had time to kick in, she is finally napping. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this, I feel like it's so soon! Thank you for any input :)

Re: Teething Already?

  • My other 2 got their first tooth around 5 months...this guy however actually cut his first too that 3.5 months. His other bottom one is on it's way too. We lucked out and didn't even know he was teething other than the drool. My other 2 both ran fevers when cutting teeth.

My first had 4 teeth pop at once when she was 4 months old. Holly is teething at the moment and will be 4 months on the 16th. It is very possible that your little one is teething as well. Teething rings that go in the freezer are great.
  • A lot of the drooling, mouthing objects etc can be developmental and is very common at this age. It's hard to know sometimes, especially until you see the teeth pushing up.

If I didn't know better, I would almost think YDS was teething because he downright gnaws on stuff. But ODS didn't get any teeth until 8 months and I've read it tends to be genetic. Who knows!

  • Thank you ladies, I definitely appreciate the feedback, I'm a FTM so I'm trying to figure out what I need to do to help my LO feel better :)

At this age, I am more inclined to agree with the bolded rather than think it's true teething. Not that that is true for all babies, but most don't teeth this early.

  • Just discovered that the aggressive hand sucking/chewing and increase in drool could be actual teething. Felt around on the bottom gums and while there isn't white poking through yet there is a bumped up area that is lighter in color so I think we are on our way to tooth #1. Wondering if this is contributing to the motn waking that didn't exist three weeks ago.
Gave him his kiki teething elephant today and he has no concept of chewing on anything besides his hands.
