Face down sleep

Lo keeps sleeping with her face buried into the mattress. Like completely face down. It is freaking me out. Like in afraid to sleep now. I called the pedi and he said there's not much we can do but turn her head when we see her face down and she should be fine. Im just so worried.

Re: Face down sleep

  • Mine does the same thing. I put her on her back and she rolls and sleeps on her stomach with her face smashed against the mattress. She can lift her head and move it so I'm not too worried. I move her head and she moves it right back.

  • Yup. You just have to make peace with it. There's not much you can do if LO decides to sleep that way.

  • DS does this as well. He wears a Snuza, so I don't worry about it as much as I would otherwise. I also think having the Snuza on his tummy encourages him to pull his knees to his chest and stick his butt in the air, which then in turn encourages him to move his head to the side. As opposed to being totally flat and face straight down into the mattress. HTH!

  • @Red_Dahlia‌ where on the tummy do you wear the snuza? Any false alarms? Does lo seem to mind it? I just ordered one.
  • Mine started doing this last night, little rascal! He had us worried and up all night checking on him.

  • The Snuza gives me such comfort, as DS decided early that being on his back was a no-go. We've only had a handful of false alarms and, thankfully, they were usually while I was nursing or holding him. I don't think we'll be able to continue to use it too much longer; no A/C in BC means he'll probably have to sleep in only a diaper when summer finally arrives and I'm not sure it will stay in place.
