If you wax your beav, come in

A few months ago I started waxing my bikini area. So far I'm loving it, but curious how long you wait between waxing? And do you shave if something last minute comes up that you want to be clean for or are you pretty religious about waxing every X amount of weeks and that's it? How long are you smooth before any hair starts growing back?

My waxer tells me 4 weeks is fine. My friend gets hers every 8 weeks. I feel like when I go closer to 4 vs 8 I have the next cycle of hair coming in much sooner.

TIA

I just got a Brazilian wax yesterday, and the last one was 9 years ago for my honeymoon, so clearly I can't give an answer based on personal experience.

The technician at the salon said she recommends doing it every 4 weeks because that's how long a hair growth cycle is, so the hairs will still be dead and won't have rooted yet, so they'll be easier to pull out. Also it will get all of the hair on the same growth cycle, and the hair will eventually get finer and thinner.

I don't know - she might be right, but I'm going to stick to only special occasions because I don't want to spend more on my pubic hair maintenance than I do on the hair on my head.

  • The more you get it done the less you have to go in to get it redone.  Years of waxing will cause less hair to grow back in over time.  I hate shaving.  Im talking  like with the fire of a thousand suns HATE!  Im 32 weeks pregnant and got my last wax at around 10 weeks and nothing is really fully grown back in cause Ive been doing it for years.  I plan on getting another sometime next week.

Id say 4-6 weeks is good at the start but you'll probably notice you can go 8 or even more after steady appointments.

  • ^^ Agreed. Brazilian almost 9 years and still comes back.  I would love to do 4 weeks but life happens and I'm lucky to make it every 6.  I plan around what I have going on and my wax lady gets pissed if you shave in between.

  • Ok. Thanks lady's. I feel like 4-5 weeks is good. Was just worried I wasn't waiting long enough.

So how long are you smooth, meaning no hair at all?

Honest question: can big girls get bikini waxes? I've always wanted to but because I'm plus size I've been leery to even attempt it.

If you're interested in doing it, I would go to a reputable salon and talk to them about it. I would think the technician would have you position your body in certain ways to make it work.

TMI and overshare warning - speaking of honest questions, I felt the need to tell the technician about my hemherroids because I didn't want her to be freaked out and also didn't know if that would be an issue. She was like, "It won't be a problem; I've seen them before, and I won't be actually putting the wax in your anus because hair doesn't grow there." I LOLed and then felt dumb for asking the question.

@uconnhuskie007‌, she just waxed around it for me rather than going over it, but maybe that's because I am special. :)
  • I don't think she goes right over my butt hole, pretty sure it's only side of it then the other. My lady also only charges me for a bikini but I get a full brazilian
  • I go 4-6 weeks between waxes, if I go longer than 4 weeks I start to have visible growth but I 'dont always care. I never shave in between but if I have an "event" like going to the beach I will adjust waxing schedule accordingly.

One of the reasons I don't shave in between and many wax ladies say you shouldn't is you get more ingrown hairs. That's true for me at least.

@lisajay09 I don't think that would be an issue at all. I see ladies in all sizes getting bikini waxes.

@uconnhuskie007 Does brazilian wax in the US include butt? I live in Brazil and here the bikini wax is just crotch/genital area, butt is a separate wax (you pay extra if you want it). I've never done it.

  • I've been told multiple things. Some refer to Brazilian as everything (like no patch/strip) but extended Brazilian would be butt hole included.

I schedule a "Brazilian" which (at this salon) is back area included, my lady asks if we're "leaving anything" meaning a patch/heart/strip etc.

If you didn't want butt, it'd be bikini wax.
  • @slappalicious me too! I just wanted to add although I think I've said it before it's not called a Brazilian here, just a "crotch wax".

Brazilian = everything at my place too.

@WrathfulMom, it's definitely not comfortable. You can take a few ibuprofen before, or they even sell cream to numb that area. I've heard that it doesn't hurt as much the more you do it. I definitely thought of the "Yooooooooow, Kelly Clarkson!" waxing scene from 40 year old virgin, but it wasn't that bad.
  • Well damn!  That sucks!  I know everyone is different but, I really assumed that continually ripping the hair from your body would mean a little less of it comes back since you damage the follicle when the hair comes out.  Like my legs were super hairy growing up and Id sneak and shave cause my mum didn't want me to.  My eyebrows were bushy as hell too and they have never gone back full bush when I skip an appointment.   You ladies have my sympathies.

I suggest threading for your eyebrows for those of you who many not have ever tried it.  I like the results better.
