Pregnant after a Loss

My 8 week update and a couple questions

Hi all! I know I have been absent lately...I've been mobile bumping a lot and it was a hectic last week at work for me. Now that I have a day off, I am trying to catch up with you lovely ladies!

I had my 8 week scan today. Measuring 8 weeks with a heart beat of 162! My RE and nurse were very happy, so I am thrilled! RE wants to see my one more week before graduating me to o/b. Mixed feelings, of course! On one hand, I know it would be a good thing to be able to move on. But up until now what has been keeping my PgAL brain in check is being able to take appointments as week by week milestones to pass since I was going to RE twice a week. This week and next, I will only go once a week. I am seriously wondering if I should buy a doppler-those who have, does it really put your mind at ease? I'm worried having the ability to check for HB will make me more likely to obsess and worry.

RE also said I would stop progesterone at 10 weeks. Does that seem early? I'll stop aspirin at 7 months, and will need to refer to hematologist about lovenox. I go and see hematologist today actually, so will hopefully know more.

My official due date is Dec 15, 2014! All along I seem to be measuring 2 days behind LMP and 1 day behind O day. But since measurements consistently stay on track, I'm relaxed about it.

Last question, WHY do I have a tiny box that says "image" next to my ticker??? I've deleted and reentered code a few times and it keeps staying that way. Just annoying!

Re: My 8 week update and a couple questions

  • Hurray for a great scan today!!  Thanks for reminding me to ask my RE today about when to go off of progesterone... I was thinking 12 weeks to be on the safe side, but maybe 10 is the "safe zone?"  I'll let you know what he says.  I'm also debating about the doppler- DH thinks I'll want to do it every morning and night! ;)  Not sure about the "image" text next to your ticker- my only suggestion is to put your cursor where the code starts and hit backspace until you get to your last BFP update?

    Congrats on a great appointment!!

My dear friend lent me her doppler, and I obsessed a little at first, but mostly because I just thought it was so stinkin cool to hear! I barely touch it now though. I do really like having it to ease my mind on particularly rough days.

Regarding the progesterone - I stopped using the supps at 10 weeks. It was a big scary leap, but for what it's worth, I'm still here and just shy of 20 weeks now.

  • Great update!  No advice on the suppositories but I'm interested in what others have experienced since I am on them, too.

Only thing I often read about dopplers is that many of them cannot consistently detect a HB until later in the PG - 14 weeks in many cases.  It sounds like other ladies here have used them earlier and found HB but it's something to consider ... will PgAL brain go into overdrive if you can't find it right away - KWIM?  Might also have something to do with the quality of the doppler you buy/rent.

  • Congratulations on a great appt and scan!  Graduating to the OB is wonderful, though scary milestone for sure.  Hopefully your appts will be evenly spaced to help ease the transition.

As for a doppler, I thought for sure I would want one, but the more DH and I talked about it, the more I realized it wasn't right for me. I am far to anxious by nature and knew I would not handle not finding the HB well at all.  I think it all depends on how you think you would react.

And, sorry, no tips on the siggy question.  Have you tried just deleting and re-adding your ticker?

Congrats on a great scan! Grow LO grow!

As for the doppler, I'm in the "I want one" camp. But I'm going to wait until 12 weeks so I have a better chance of finding the h/b. It will be my big reward for getting through the long wait!

As for dealing with the wait time between appointments, it might be worth talking to your OB about once you graduate. I talked to my OB about how afraid I was for the wait between the 8 wk and 12 wk appointment & she's letting me come in for a quick h/b check at 10 wks. Having that on the calendar is easing my mind a lot.

  • Yah for a great visit and hearing the heartbeat! So happy for you. My OB said I would do progesterone until 14 weeks and I think he said aspirin the whole pregnancy, but I'm not completely sure.

Congrats on a great appointment! I'm absolutely thrilled for you!!!! :-*

My RE graduated me at 9w4 days and said I was ok to go off the progesterone. He said to wean down to once a day for a week then either stop or goto every other day for a week. He said this would help prevent spotting as going off cold turkey can sometimes cause spotting. I'm still antsy about this, so I'm going to finish my bottle out, which I should about 12wks at that point.

Also, try to get it worked out where the nt scan isn't too far away from a reg ob appt, that way you're still close to eow in the 1st tri.

I bought a sonoline b pocket Doppler. I haven't tried it yet, I know it's hard to find the hb earlier than 12wks. I think it'll be most handy after the nt scan and waiting for the a/s scan.

Yay for a great visit!  I'm currently on oral progesterone and will be stopping them at 12 weeks.  At first my doc had said 10 weeks and then decided 12 weeks to give the placenta "wiggle room" to completely take over.  At the same appointment when he decided 12 weeks, I was going to question him because I didn't feel comfortable stopping at 10 weeks.  Do a little research and talk to your doctor about your worries with stopping progesterone.  They'll know what is best for you!

As far as the doppler goes, I thought it would be a real good idea to have one to ease my PGAL brain.  After giving myself a couple days to really think about it, I decided not to order it.  I'm a very anxious person and not being able to find a heartbeat would give me far worse anxiety than just waiting for my next appointment. Think about whether you can deal with not finding a heartbeat (because it's a possibility you won't especially early on and because we're not trained to do that).  I think for a lot of people this is a good investment for peace of mind, I'm just in that group that wouldn't benefit from having one.

  • Congrats on a great scan!

I was on prog. suppositories until 10 weeks as well. It seems to be the pretty standard practice for docs prescribing them, so although I felt nervous when week 10 rolled around, I trusted that my OB knew what she was doing. And believe me when I say, by 10 weeks you will be very glad to be rid of them! So many ruined pairs of underwear...

@MrsDeo to the siggy rescue-that's exactly what was wrong, THANKS! It was driving me nuts!

I am actually OK with stopping progesterone at 10 weeks since I don't think my issue was ever low progesterone, but we will see if I am still thinking that way when I hit 9 weeks 6 days...I am also leaning towards no doppler. I want to talk with H and see what his thinking on that is, but I am pretty confident he will say no, that it will stress me out too much.

  • Congrats! I was on progesterone until 12 weeks but my RE said up to 10 would have been fine.

I love love love my doppler and honestly don't know what I would do without it. It gives me so much peace of mind. I check it each morning (sonoline B starting at 9.5 weeks I think) and I can go into each day knowing that baby's heart is beating. The relief I feel everytime is huge. It makes going into an appointment so much less stressful for me especially doppler checks but obviously ultrasounds are a different thing. I imagine that once I feel movement I will use it less but for now it has worked wonders for my crazy.
  • Yay!  I was also on Progesterone. My doctor said they usually stop between 10-12 weeks so it sounds normal. I will be on aspirin and Lovenox for my entire pregnancy (until the last 3 weeks when they will move me to Heprin). Best of luck with everything! {{HUGS}}
  • Eliz77Eliz77 member
Of course I forgot to ask my hematologist how long I would be on lovenox and when to switch to heparin. I see him in 2 weeks, so will ask then. RE said to stop aspirin at 7 months. I'll ask hematologist about that, as well.

  • Congrats! My OB said to take progesterone until 10 or 11 weeks. I had my 1st trimester screen at 11w4d, and after that point I dropped down to once daily (I had to take it twice daily before that) until my prescription ran out at 12w5d, which was just on Saturday. It's a little nerve-wracking, but it's also a relief! I'll be taking baby aspirin until 37 weeks.

  • Congrats! No 10 weeks is not too early, that's when I stopped taking for both my pregnancies.  I am taking baby asprin until 36 weeks. IMO, I think a Doppler can be a bad thing for the PGAL brain. That's why I didn't get one, I didn't want to be obsessing and over worrying if I couldn't find the hb. But I know a lot of people do have them...
