Quitting a job you like

Has anyone quit a really great job? One of my clients offered me a position with a significant raise and much better benefits. I accepted the position and just gave notice at my current company yesterday. Things are awful. My bosses took it pretty well and said all the right things. But I can't help but feel like people are generally avoiding me now. It is fairly common in my industry for clients to steal good people, but not so much in my current department.

Anyway, has anyone been in a similar situation? How did you make it through the last two weeks? Any tips for smoothing things over with my coworkers? I will definitely be working with many of them in the future just from the other side. Any other tips or words of encouragement?

  • Just work as hard as you can to leave your projects and tasks as complete as possible, Make good notes on clients, project status, etc. for the person who will take your place. Wrap up all the loose ends that you can and thank co-workers for their contribution and friendship.

  • plus considering you will now be a client, they will be forced to get over it and do what is right by you :)
  • Thanks ladies. You are right. It is no big deal and will blow over.
  • Don't worry about them. If they're your real friends they would be happy for you. That's why we're working in the first place, right? To get more money to give our families what they want. I'm pretty sure that if they're in the same situation, they would do the same thing.
